A private rp for Dea and Luna. Octobers RP prompt!

It’s Hallowe’en night and wind is howling through the trees. The weather is suddenly ghastly. A mysterious mist rises around. Every once in awhile you think you hear the jingling of tack, the huffs of horses impatiently waiting…on what?

A cold sense of dread overcomes you. The tiny hairs on the back of your neck stand up, and for a moment everything seems pretenaturally still. Your breath catches in your chest and when you finally release breath it comes out in a white huff of air. It’s suddenly very cold. Your mouth is so dry you can barely swallow even if you can get the shallow breaths to actually force air into your lungs.

There’s a loud cracking sound and you think you hear voices on the wind, but you can’t be sure. All you know is that they’re coming, they’re coming, THEY'RE COMING!.... For you.

It’s some innate fear that tells you this, something instinctual. You can feel that whatever is out there is hunting you–that you are the prey. It’s imperative you run, the world narrows down to a single field of vision and you run, you run for your life and perhaps something more.

The Wild Hunt rides tonight on All Hallow’s Eve. It is composed of a plethora of fallen warriors, lost souls, and mythical beings forever roaming the land on these chilly nights.

Extra Rules for this Prompt:

1. You are armed with no weapon but your wits (if you have them).
2. This is a dream or fugue state, even if you’re soquili has wings, magic or glowing plants/crystals, they do not exist in this state. Basically, you’re as basic as can be.

You have two choices for prompts:

1. It's a dark and blustery night, and you've fallen asleep in a thicket in the forest. You dream you've joined the wild hunt. What's it like? How did it happen? You can tackle just one of these questions or explore your own.

2, You fall asleep safe in your bed and dream that for some reason the Wild Hunt is chasing you. Tell us about it. Talk about that breathing down your neck fear that envelops you. Do you know why they’re chasing you? (You don’t have to). Show us what it’s like to be running and scared.

((We will be using BOTH prompts! The Hunt, and the Hunted!))

Irithiel Goldenleaf stirred in her sleep, a dull hammering noise pounding in her ears. Shifting, she tried to sleep through it. As the noise got louder, Iri's mind pulled at her senses, to focus on the sound. As she did, she realized the methodic beating is that of her own heart, drumming in her ears. Bolting awake, senses electrified, Iri felt...frightened. The very air around her, pushing against her, to WAKE UP AND RUN. Iri paniced for a moment, trying to settle her nerves with logic. She had went to sleep in her home, protected and safe in the Goldenleaf lands. Yet...that is not where she is now! Every muscle in her body ached to flee, or fight. Against what, she did not know! Being that she is no fighter, Iri dug hooves into the earthen ground, moving herself with the push of adrenaline. Whatever it is, she must get far away from it! No time to think! Just go

And go she did. Her chest heaved, and her hooves drummed louder than the drum of her heart. Through trees and thickets, she darted, tearing leaf and limb if they got in her way. She ran for who knows how long, before she thought she could run no more. Voices. They could be heard on the wind. A tear of fear and exhaustion ran down Iri's face. Slowing her pace, she came to a river. Without even thinking, she crossed the river, then crossed it again, then began to wade down the river, through the water. Before long, she left the water, creeping, quiet, and padded into the forest. The voices gone, and so was her stamina. She did her best to catch her breath, and not make noise. Silent tears streaming down her sweat riddled face.

Conleth had laid down in a thicket he found in the woods, knowing he would need some sleep if he was going to go hunting in the morning. He wasn't a shifter, so did not need the meat for sustenance, the hunting was more because he liked the chase. It was wonderful to track down prey and make them feel fear in every part of their body. If he got a chance to catch them and make them bleed, it was even better. He always decided if it was worth it to kill them or not, usually he liked just having them be good and scared of him. For now, he needed the sleep, while he could hear the leave rustling from the blustery wind howling around him.

The orange and yellow Soquili had just drifted off, or so he thought, when he felt this urge to chase. His eyes shot back open and he looked around, no longer where he had laid down to sleep. Others that look like him and shifters seem to be assembling, he got up and walked over to them, his ears sharply tuned to what was being said by these others. A wild hunt, that was what they were talking about, his heart hammered in pure excitement. So it seemed they had a quarry to go after, fantastic, it seemed his mind must have conjured this up.

Having been given instructions by one that seemed to be in charge, he took off running in the direction of the river they mentioned. One of those part of the hunt seemed to think this was where their prey would head, he was definitely planning to have fun with this. He went as fast as his legs could go, while also being stealthy. He didn't know what they were chasing, but he dearly hoped they would put up quite the chase and fight. (WC: 316)

The sound of a horn blows in the distance, signaling to all those that could hear. Irithiel Goldenleaf knew this, in her bones. The call of the wild night, sending a chill through her spine. Her very bones ached with fear. Her keen ears picked up voices on the wind. Earthen colored ears swiveled to get a better listen. It could be the wind playing tricks on her, or the voices weren't close yet. Delving deeper into the forest, Iri took care to bob and weave around branch and brush, as best she could. Sometimes full walls of thorns lay in her way, as if guiding her to not go that way.

Then the voices reached her ears again, this time most certain that they were in fact, voices being carried to her. Wrapped up nice, as a warning, TO RUN. Throwing caution away, she picked up her speed, no longer caring if her hair snagged on branches. The soft thud of hooves echoed through the forest. This time when a wall of thorns came before her path, she picked up speed. The wall grew taller, as if trying to thwart her intended effort. Iri only ran faster, and jumped! Closing her eyes, she expected the thorns to snag her all over. As she landed, she looked behind her, and the thorns were gone. How peculiar. Iri didn't stop to think about it long, and continued to run.

Just as she's about to reach the end of her endurance, she happens upon a camp with a fire lit in the middle. Weapons and other gear strewn about, but no one is here. Fear wrecks her heart at the sight of the sharp objects. Turning back to the forest, she runs in the opposite direction. After a while, she happens upon the camp again. Flees once more, with the same fate.

How cruel that no matter which way she went, something in the night wanted her to be found. This time, she went into the forest, found a suitable spot, and halted. No longer would she play this game. If she is to be found, then it would be in a place she deemed! Pointing her horn down, she stood there, and huffed, waiting. Skinny legs that held firm, quivered from the overuse, but did not falter.

Conleth was keeping his ears swiveling, listening for any sound that may direct him to his quarry. He had to make sure he differentiated between the sound of the other members of the hunt and whatever they were chasing. As he kept his wits about him, he thought on the many different options they had for what they could be chasing. It could be something small, like some birds or animals, but that did not seem worthy for such a powerful group as he had seen. Maybe it was one of the big cats, that would be more like it, he imagined. That would not be something easy to put down, but definitely would be fun to be involved in taking one down. Of course, it could be a charmed shifter too, at least the kind that was all sappy good. He retched a little at the thought, it made him sick just thinking about it.

As he continued into the woods, he saw some thorns around, well that was certainly interesting. He did hope it was slowing down the prey, since it would make it easier to corral them into just the right spot and get to sink his claws into their hide, whatever the hide turned out to be. He also caught a scent in his nostrils, following it to see where it would lead him. Getting deeper into the forest, he saw some branches, with something catching the light of the moon just right. He went over, to examine it, untangling it from the bush and seeing it looked like hair. He sniffed it, it was the hair of a Soquili, so what that what their prey was? It was not one with fur like him, so more likely a wind or normal type, maybe even a unicorn. The thought made him giddy as he continued on.

Conleth continued on, coming upon a camp, a fire keeping the warmth. He looked to the ground around it. It looked like something disturbed some of the underbrush, bending it. Alright, he would just follow where there seemed to be grooves in the dirt or at least things that looked like they had been stepped on. He continued further into the woods, keeping himself at the ready for anything that might be around. He had seen some more thorns, but nothing that was really his concern. His yellow and orange eyes seemed to shine in the dark, as he followed what he could only hope was a trail that would lead to his prey.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are,"he taunted in a soft, sing song voice.

Irithiel's heart pounded so loud, as she heard someone speaking. Her ears rang with the eerie invite to show herself. Her breath shook as she tried to breathe quietly, but her chest yearned for air that her shallow breathing didn't sate. Iri thought she might choke on the very air she breathed, but still, she remained quiet. She could hear soft steps, very close. She pointed her head towards the way she thought they were approaching, horn jutting ahead. The long elegant horn, the only weapon she had. Even though there had been weapons in the camp, there was no way she had the strength to wield them.

Barely able to contain herself, she gave a little yelp as a firey stranger slipped through the trees.

As Iri's voice caught in her throat, in a scream, something odd occurred.

She woke up.

Screaming.

Next to her mate, she blinked at him quite confused, then quietly sobbed as she laid her head against him. After her nerves settle, she tells him all about the horrifiying, and very real dream she just had.

Conleth kept his ears tuned to any little sound from his prey, hoping that calling out to them had put some good old fear in them. He went through the trees, his heart racing in anticipation, his mind still figuring this was going to quite the catch. As he broke through a line of trees into an area, his ears flicked forward as he heard something which sounded like a yelp. Well, it seemed his appearance had indeed instilled some fear, wonderful. He noticed something jutting out of an area, it seemed to give off a little shine from the moonlight. Oh my, was his prey a unicorn, that just made him ever more excited to think of.

He stalked further in that direction, the hunger for this capture plain in his eyes. Just a little more, he wondered if the unicorn was going to fight back or try running again. He imagined that they had to be tired, having done all that running away from the hunt. He could feel the energy running through his muscles as he closed the distance between that horn and himself. He was just about to pounce, when he noticed the horn disappear and so did the area he was in.

His eyes opened up, finding himself back in the thicket he had laid down in. A grumble came from him, he should have known that he just would not get to enjoy his catch. Though, maybe they had been someone really around, since they did not act like he would have dreamed them. That thought made the cat like Soquili to grin to himself, resting his head back down. If that was the case, maybe he would see them again someday. For now, he decided all of that had made him hungry, so he got up to go look for some food for him to enjoy. With his exhilarating dream come to an end, it was time for some food and to start the day. His dream would push him to challenge himself, that was for sure.
