Ravenna had been shocked by the spellraven's apperance, and the message it brought with it was a complete surprise. She couldn't imagine who might have written to her, though it seemed the spirits had something tricky up their sleeves.
Ravenna had debated informing Atheron, but the stallion was in the middle of his rounds and could be anywhere around the herd lands. She'd been out among the plains, performing a quiet ritual and prayer to the full moon -- the her didn't expect her to return until closer to dawn. Finishing up her prayer earlier than expected, she couldn't help but take this as an auspicious sign. The moon was full, the stars bright, and she wasn't sure how long the spellraven would linger - no, it was better to go now than delay. With little else to go by, Ravenna tightened the shawl around her shoulders, and with letter in hand, informed the spellraven she was ready.
The clever creature clacked its beak, before taking flight. It seemed to know its quest, ensuring it didn't get far from Ravenna. It lead her across the plains, over the hills, and over to the woods that were on the far opposite side. Ravenna hadn't been to this side of the plainlands -- sometimes the plains went on for days but this time, they seemed ready for discovery.
Following the spellraven into the woods, Ravenna held onto the letter tightly, alert, and curious. Who might be out there looking for her?

A croak signaled the return of the spellraven. Althaea, who had been keeping a silent vigil in the forest, glanced up to find the magical bird leading her great-granddaughter to her. Ah, Ravenna was beautiful, and the resemblance between them was strong, though Althaea could see the mark of her beloved mate in the filly's coloration. The old mare smiled, pleased to see her great-grandchild at last. It would only have been better had Aiolos been with her, but the mare was content to seek out the rest of Ravenna's herd on another occasion.
There were things that great-grandmother and great-granddaughter had to discuss alone. "My dear, you came," she said, throwing open her arms in a welcome. She did not expect Ravenna to dash into them, but the signal was universal. Surely her descendant would recognize it for what it was. "Before you ask, I am your great-grandmother. The moon has kept me up to date on your adventures since leaving the Sun herd."
For within the Sun herd she could not observe her fractured kin. There were spells and protections laid onto the Sun herd's lands that were surely meant for good purposes, but had kept the mare from checking in on her loved ones. Nor was Althaea welcome in the Sun herd. A worshipper of the Moon had no place within its lands, even for a visit. So it was that Ravenna and Aiolos were the first of her descendants that the old mare had heard of in all this time. With her daughter's absence into the moon's embrace, she had been without kith and kin until now.
Reaching out, the priestess fed the spellraven a treat reserved for this purpose. It croaked again, and then took off deeper into the forest. Althaea did not watch its flight as it vanished, but she knew that if she had need of a spellraven one would once again appear. They had a way of knowing these things. Watching Ravenna curiously, she hoped that the young mare would not be too alarmed by what she had revealed.
