Stuncroft Doule is a herd of thieves, assassins, mercenaries, criminals, and all other shady figures. They deny knowing the others except for in the herd’s taverns and personal buildings, where they can be safe about their identities. There is an unspoken rule amongst all within the herd: no one snitches. Because the herd runs and is affiliated with all sorts of shady activity, it would be extremely harmful for their sacred secrecy to be ruined. All manner of beastie and “normie” are accepted into the herd. They just must be aligned with the evil within them.

The general aesthetic of the herd is “honest man of the soil” (but they aren’t very honest), coarse, and iron/leather. However, there is no set necessary aesthetic. Looks don’t matter, only personality and affiliation.

When “crime” is referenced, don’t think of bank robberies and the like. Large-scale operations remain simple: moving stolen food and items around, assassinating an important person in another herd, killing multiple or even large groups of people, etc. They simply use a little more tact with things that one member can’t commit smoothly. The secrecy is more important.

Unlike some of the other herds, membership is not guaranteed based on heritage. There are many cases of one partner being in the herd but their mate having no idea about it, and their children having no idea of the herd even existing. It all depends on family circumstances. Children are welcome to grow up within the herd, but if they don’t align with its morals, they will not be allowed to stay. There are only three other ways to be cast from the herd: 1. Death, 2. Leaving of your own fruition, and 3. Breaking the taboo. Anyone who speaks of their comrades’ actions or of the herd’s activities will be kicked out of the herd if their own herd-mates don’t succeed in killing them first. It is a serious taboo to reveal herd secrets and many will be displeased with those who break this rule.

Amongst the members themselves, there is a “leave disputes at the door” policy. When groups of the herd team up, all personal grudges must be cast aside for business. The herd comes before the individual. You must sacrifice yourself, your morals, your grudges for the herd. In return, you are guaranteed help by other members with anything one may require. The bonds within the herd are as close as family yet as distant as strangers. They’re typically willing to die for their herd, but may dislike everyone else in the herd. That is the essence of Stuncroft Doule—everyone understands the situation and has a shared kinship.

Every member of the herd has criminal tendencies. Not every member must have a criminal record, but those who don’t may be subject to teasing and being made fun of for their “pansy” behavior. This is also true of those who don’t look very criminal. The best way to crush the comments is to prove your worth and strength, with force if necessary. No member will be allowed to stay if they have no criminal tendencies. Attempting to spy or stay within the herd for intel on mercenary guild or criminal movements is punishable by death. You may even find yourself at the hands of the herd’s Leader themselves.

P.S. Please use RP common sense and etiquette when roleplaying any crimes or killing. Don’t try to kill a character without permission. Most of this is headcanon and OOC.

Characters cannot stay within the herd if they are not willing to sacrifice their morals and autonomy to the “greater cause”. If they do not agree, they leave. It’s very simple. Also, if a character looks stereotypically “good”, this is not necessarily an automatic turn-down. All members of the herd must be okay with evil, crime, and murder, if not participating themselves. Their appearances don’t matter as long as their personalities fit. Blessings and curses don’t affect those who can/can’t join. A taur cannot join if they simply intend to spy or sell the herd out. That ruins the entire point. Don’t try it. Typically, the herd will have no official opinion on other herds. Members can mate with or talk to whoever they want, but they cannot reveal the taboo to their mates or children if they are not part of the herd.

About Promotions:
A character must be a member of the herd for at least one month and have participated in one herd-centered roleplay to be able to be promoted.

Leadership Ranks
Leader, also known as: the Boss, Head Honcho, Commander
Current Amount: 1/1
The Leader of the herd is typically a more senior member, but this isn’t always true. The only way to become the leader is to defeat the past leader in a fight of the past leader’s choosing. It ranges from death matches, K.O. matches, to nonviolent challenges like chess or even dancing. The only requirement is that the challenger wins whatever the contest set by the leader is. The Leader manages the herd, bounties, group crime, and complex business interactions (regarding things such as taverns and shops).

Second-in-Command Ranks

These roles report directly to the Leader and take orders from no one else. At least one of each of these roles (other than Underboss) is responsible for the aquatic and aviation divisions for mer and pegasi members of the herd.

Jr. Leader, also known as the Boss’ Pet, Lackey
Current Amount: 0/1
The Jr, Leader is the second-in-command, the face of herd. They handle all of the important affairs the Leader doesn’t want to, such as commanding the other high-ranking members of the herd. However, being the Jr. Leader does not guarantee a promotion to Leader. Typically, an Jr. Leader stays a Jr. Leader for the rest of their life. Sometimes, the position inspires some envy and hatred, due to the proximity of the Leader and the sense of favoritism,

Tactician, also known as Strategist, Spy
Current Amount: 0/???
The main brains of the operation, Tacticians do just that—create tactics. They make plans for large crimes and movements of crime, organize punishment and inter-herd disputes between members. Tacticians MUST be a Scribe before rising to this rank, otherwise they are unqualified. When high-level and more trustworthy spies are needed, they are pulled from the existing Tacticians.

Fighter, also known as Soldier
Current Amount: 0/???
Fighters follow through with the plans made by Advisors. This includes punishment and large-scale crime. They lead operations and assign tasks to assassins and mercenaries, as well as being responsible for overall herd protection and guarding. Soldiers typically run the mercenary and assassin’s guild that the herd’s a part of, making sure the members move smoothly and efficiently.

Intermediary Ranks

These ranks take orders from the Seconds-in-Command and occasionally the Leader themselves. At least two of each of these roles are responsible for the aquatic and aviation divisions for mer and pegasi members of the herd.

Scribe, also known as Scroll-Pusher
Current Amount: 0/???
These low-level members are responsible for all paperwork, so to speak. Scribes do all of the secret heavy lifting including liaison duties, paperwork, organization, and funding distribution. Without Scribes, the herd would fall apart.

Guild Assassin/Mercenary, also known as Hitman
Current Amount: 0/???
These are the stronger assassins and mercenaries that are officially recognized in their skill by the herd and the Soldiers. They are able to commit riskier crimes and are used for higher-level raids and crime. They also get their first pick of bounties and jobs from the Soldiers.

Membership Ranks

These are your average, run-of-the-mill members. They fall into these categories. These also apply to the aquatic and aviation divisions for mer and pegasi members of the herd.

Normal Assassin/Mercenary
Unlimited Amount
A member who prefers to take on hitman jobs. They murder regularly and are very stealthy.

Craftsman
Unlimited Amount
Any member who specializes in craftsmanship. This includes those who work for the herd shops, metallurgies (for weapons), construction, etc. They may or may not have committed any true crimes, but they are willing to, and are definitely accomplices to it.

Thief
Unlimited Amount
As self-explanatory as it is, a thief is any member who prefers thievery as their job. They steal money, items, and even in rare cases other creatures, to benefit the herd. Thieves are also often informants as they are the trickiest and most sly.

Melting Pot
Unlimited Amount
Any member who doesn’t fit any other category is called a Melting Pot. Perhaps they dabble in everything as they please, were just born into the herd, or a newbie. They could even dabble in medicine for the herd, though this is rare.

If you have any suggestions for ranks or jobs for your taur, please come to me personally. I’m always open to suggestions!

Origins

In the earliest days of its history, Stuncroft Doule was named Doule Fleau. This early herd was only a herd in name: the members didn’t have much association with each other. It wasn’t until the third leader of the herd, Esmeray, founded the assassin’s guild she named Stuncroft. This caused the herd to grow as more assassins and mercenaries joined through their use of the assassin’s guild, but the kinship they feel today wasn’t quite as strong. The next leader, who respected Esmeray greatly, changed the name of the herd to honor Esmeray’s guild that became one of the biggest factors to the herd’s success: Stuncroft Doule. As time went on and more and more criminals joined the herd and guild, and riskier crimes required more hands and hooves, the herd became increasingly close with each other. It got richer with its stolen goods and black market of pirated wares, and everyone in it got to know everyone else. Only recently did the herd branch out to become affiliated with similarly aligned groups and organizations—as well as spreading out to some degree across all of the Chimereid Isles—fully becoming the Stuncroft Doule of today.
