In one of the larger lakes on the central Island of Faetasia, there is a lovely island that is home to the Platypi race. They live in homes that always have direct access to the water, often via intentionally flooded tunnels, as they are very fond of swimming, and even go fishing by hand in the waterways. They are great fishers, and for most of them, fish, shellfish and seaweeds make up the largest parts of their diets. The tunnels they have built make it very easy for families to bring food directly home to cook.

They also use their fishing as an important trade resource, selling to villages nearby, on the shores of the lakes, along with jewelry made from the shells leftover, as well as pearls they find as byproducts of their fishing activities. Those who don't make a living via fishing are often craftspeople of the jewelry mentioned, though some farm for foods they need or want that the sea can't provide, like fruits and various vegetables, along with the various other jobs life requires.

Platypi mate for life, and most do so soon after they reach adulthood. They are very family oriented, though all duties are split evenly between the two halves of the pairing. There are no gender-exclusive jobs or activities, it is instead based on what an individual enjoys and is skilled at. Everyone is encouraged to find a path that is right for them.
