I firstly want to say THANK YOU for allowing me to join, being able to see the cool things everyone is creating is such a blessing, and already I've thought of how I can improve dressing my avatars and overall what it can take to make a gorgeous avatars.

I also wanted to do the challenges to look at how I myself create, using models and the theme to see how I'd do.

This is open to everyone too! To chat and hang while I catch up reading and analyzing each avatar and their reasoning.

To introduce myself--

I'm Ooze! I use they/them pronouns and while I'm not on Gaia I'm either playing video games, tabletop games, doing art, writing or reading. My survival job is working at a bookstore (which has been my dream) but I also want to one day publish a novel (or do something fun with my writing).

Thank you again for the organizers of Project Catwalk for allowing me to join the guild!

Strength of Beauty

About the Look:
Leo's are known for their fiery temper and the charisma that can carry them to success - though others may see their arrogance and stubborn qualities well before the kindness they hold for others. As someone with double fire signs (Leo Sun Sagittarius Moon), I have seen how Leo's get a bad reputation.

I went with something in a mix of naturals to set the element - especially with sunflowers as its one of the key symbols of Leo, a flower which follows the sun. The same can go with the lion - a stuffed lion which Luz sits upon - to coincide with the tarot card The Sun. when I was thinking about what I wanted Luz to wear, I thought of the colors that Leo holds and represents being a fire sign the best were the oranges and reds but I couldn't find a color scheme that fit close enough with her skin and hair.

Then I found the colorway ifrit, with deep pumpkin and garnet colors with the bright flashes that rounds it out. Focusing on those colors I could pick and find pieces that set the tone for something bold like many Leos are - loud but soft with a beauty that seems natural though to be fair I stressed in finding something that looked good without changing too much to ensure I was within the lines. When Luz asked to sit on the plush lion I agreed, and found she looked so regal; a queen upon her throne with such elegance I couldn't not keep her there.

One of the things I worry that might be the weak point is the roses that adorn the plush lion, but I feel it adds to the imagery - the beauty of the flowers full knowing that there are thorns that could p***k and hurt you. Just as a Leo is beautiful and effervescent, there is an edge to them if you push too much.

What is Luz Wearing?

Challenge 2: A Girl Who Flirts
Challenger: actualdeerooze
Model: Jaylyn

User Image
soft as silk | sweet as honey

About the Look:

When I was looking into the origins and history of coquette fashion I found a lot of inspiration from of course the opulence of British fashion and taking vintage into the main, but during the early days it was also born with a lot of lolita and otome styled j-fashion. These roots are all built upon pushing on the norm of what is societally acceptable, especially in places where conservative dress is the norm.

So we pushed Jaylyn a little, by styling her a little softer than than what she might like. But she was a champ, really, and ended up falling in love with the cardigan purse combo we found. While the layering of tights and legwarmers can date an outfit, we made sure they weren't overly baggy to ensure it retained a youthful look and the tights are partially sheer, so the sun shimmers and catches plenty of light so she doesn't look too doll-like.

In much of the coquette style you'll find the softer pinks and white, but there are deeper tones which can lend a hand to bridge gaps for those who want to have that seductive feeling but may not be all high femme pink wearing. The favorite piece that adds a touch of spice here is the Witchy Aesthetic, used to cinch the waist and draw the eye as she moves but still able to retain that soft allure to catch anyones eye. When we were picking a location to shoot in, we decided to play up the Nabokov vibes by setting her in an opulent home with a verdant garden.

We wanted her to be sought after and untouchable, to be seen from above and to remain in the mind.

What is Jaylyn Wearing?

Sweet Talker (sexy time)
Sweet Runcible Knife (Her Dress)

Challenge 3: Period
Challenger: actualdeerooze
Model: Raine

User Image
Gilded Evergreen

About The Look:
When I sat down with Raine, I was already looking at different eras I wanted to do - in this challenge I'm personally not looking at what the current cycle is doing as to not be influenced. I swayed heavily between something modern and leaning into the classic. But while posing fabrics and ideas for her to wear, I found the most beautiful deep emerald green dress to drape her in, I decided I wanted to lean into Nouveau.

For those who may not know, Art Nouveau was an artistic movement set from 1880s right up until World War 1; in art, fashion, architecture, it was a period of opulence and beauty taken from nature, botanical artistry and Japanese wood-cut prints with their sharp and clear lines. When one looks at Nouveau style you'll always see Alphonse Mucha as being the father of the style, but other greats such as Gustav Klimt (known for The Kiss) and Antoni Gaudi (famous for his architecture), I wanted to structure something that encapsulates the essence of the style but still every-day wearable.

The challenge came with making sure it wasn't too complicated - flowing fabrics, and near ethereal looks of elegance. I wanted to make sure Raine could walk, so we went for the Nomina dress; it was fitted and flowing, and keeping the draped Nasturtium skirt to the side to show off a bit of her leg and making her body seem longer. We played with the makeup, but nothing too heavy as we wanted to keep her a natural face and maintained natural hair as I felt she had a natural look for the style in general.

Challenge 4: Orange is the New Black
Challenger: actualdeerooze
Model: Cheska

User Image
Fairytale Fantasy

About the Look:
I have to gently tease the judges, as while orange can be a harsh or intrusive color - orange is one of my favorites! When I was paired with Cheska (coinflips work in mysterious ways), we talked about what kinds of orange we wanted to use. Whenever you work with a model, you want to not only use colors that stand out and work within the confines of a challenge, you want to compliment the model itself. Jewel tones were the best bet within that, so we wanted something with a lot of presence but not overwhelming.

As I was looking through the types of outfits I wanted to build a story started to unfold. I wanted to play in the realm of a fairytale to match the color scheme; a fairy in her garden, with a companion to keep her company. The biggest issue I had with a limited palette, I couldn't find a top that wasn't cumbersome or boring, but I managed to find the perfect cutter to enhance the look. With bloomers to shape the waist and long sleeves at the elbows to create a flow that draws the eye, the whole look was made.

What is Cheska Wearing?

Challenge 5: OMG What is that?!
Challenger: actualdeerooze

A Vampires Day Off

About The Look:
When I was deciding on which inner tube to pick I didn't think I'd get the monochrome; it is a little hard for me to work without color so I when I was toying ideas I really had to think - its evident by how long it took me to execute the idea I had. But it immediately began to unfold when Eryn first put it on and I was brought back to the vintage films - the silver screen giving timeless beauty and making history with every act.

Of course, we just came off the heels of Ages - we don't want to replicate a look or something that may have been done in the round before, and I wanted to give this a bit of a fantastical twist. Eryn's looks are very vamp and I wanted to play it up - taking the beauty she has and the style of the era in play but twisting it more modern, to turn her into a beautiful vampire on her day off on the beach. So we picked some playful items, dressed her to the nines and put her on set.

Honestly...? I struggled. Not just with the theme, but the lack of color. I want there to be gorgeous layers, and I fear that without it, some parts may wash out. It made me more in tune with the balance of the two, and to ensure that nothing was washed out or boring. I think the addition of her holding the picnic basket and the veil that's draped over her hat solidifies and creates a balance of an at-play fun day but ties the theme together.

What Eryn is Wearing:

Black Polka Dotted Inner Tube
Enigmatic Student F (Eyes and piercings)
Team Lock and Key (Bow)
Brave Myth Hunter (Rocky Shores)
Haunted Graveyard Crasher (Pentagram Harness)
Pure Dragon Master (Bikini)
Simple Angelic Bliss (bottom b)
Jane's Curls
SPF 5000 (Veiled Sunhat)
Matte
The Hot Blood Bag (Offblack)
Carry On Step Lively (Skirt)
Split Pastoral Picnic (Arms V1)

Challenge 6: Model Makeover
Challenger: actualdeerooze
Model: Kiara

Though Muted, A Coarse Corrected

About the Look:
I'll admit it; the wig? I may have had too much fun chopping it up and it ended up looking a little cosplay - but Kiara, the wonderful woman she is hit it out of the PARK sporting the wig while we decided on what kind of look we wanted. Its been a long six weeks and each challenge has been harder than the last, so what was there to do than do something a little more laid back.

I asked Kiara what was something that she felt comfortable wearing on her day to day and she provided the soft wool mix dijon yellow cardigan. I wanted her to keep wearing it the entire time we looked at something to outfit her in! We kept up with the theme and a little texture with the leather of the bralette from the Moe Emo series but set her in a comforting, scene to create a juxtaposition of casual vibes in model wear. To elongate her torso and create some play with the elements we added a corset with playful bows that Kiara could hook to her pants or keep them loose. I did alternate between skirts and pants, but we settled on the skinny jeans to create the angels of her body to be able to walk down the runway and be at play.

What is Kiara Wearing?

Sainte Ciel: Agape (Disciple of Sainte Ciel)
M's Sketchbook (Hairpins)
Her Cold Embrace (Skinny Jeans)
Demure Princess Less Than Three (Misplaced Clips)
Sensible Tenacious Love (Face)
Australis Star Shooter
C's Brilliant Whimsical Tresses (Mute)
Kirin Winter Hunt
Wispers FALLing for you (Bench)
Coarse Hopelessly Brittle (Arms v1)
Ouch! Something There (Background)
Coarse Witchy Aesthetic (Corset)
Coarse Moe Emo (Bound and Broken, But Still I Persevere)

Back to Black

About the Look:
I will admit I was having some deep thoughts on which starlet that I could feature until I found that Amy Winehouse was on the list.

A well known UK R&B, Soul and Jazz artist, Amy was beloved for her depth of lyrics and her soulful voice. She lost her battle with addiction during the heart of her career and many were destroyed (myself included) to learn of her passing. I had been a fan of hers for a very long time, and being able to replicate an outfit of hers on the runway would always be a dream.

While I looked for outfits and the inspiration to draw her, I also had to think of where I wanted to put Jayln - a scene to showcase her and show off the details of the outfit. Of course, many could have put her behind the bar, close in the arms of a handsome man, but Amy was more than her heartache and her love of drink. She truly loved making music, and putting her passion into song and her performances.

There were moments I did take pause - finding the right leather jacket was a pain and I'm still a little iffy on the structure of it. But I didn't want to overwhelm the outfit and push it too far; with Amy's fashion she liked small details with opulence rather than big or loud flashy things. It was fitting to use the back2k bodysuit as a base and the loose Mystic Goth crop top to create great dynamic lines and show just enough skin to be cheeky.

Some of my favorite songs Amy has done are Tears Dry On Their Own and her cover of Valerie.

I will frame it on my wall! I'm really excited about the challenges honestly - I'm also trying to not look at the other models till I'm satisfied with what I've designed (or posted) so now I get to look at theirs and see what they've done.
