The days were starting to become longer as winter slowly ebbed away, giving way to the new dawn of spring. The night air still had a crispness to it and held a scent of renewal and life within that sent a small chill through the mare's veins. Golden eyes scanned the horizon as the mare carefully made her way through the mountain forest she called her home.
In a sense, it was a daily ritual to leave her garden and visit the more hidden coves to inspect the more unknown flowers and herbs that she has failed to propagate within her own garden. It also allowed her to search for signs of other soquili making their way through the area. It was not that she thought negatively of visitors, but some had more respect for the plant and wildlife than others. Tonight though, her mind rested elsewhere.
"Do you believe in fate?" her friend Yin had asked her in the early afternoon.
The apothecary didn't really have an answer.
The concept of fate is like a beautiful ever spiraling void of both hope and anger. To some, there is the belief that one's fate is pre-determined by the universe or a higher power. What is, is, and shall always be. Even if one was to believe that they could dodge their fate by going against the grain or acting out of character, such actions would have already been calculated by the universe and will continue to lead one to their destiny. In a way, it is similar to a chain. All actions link to one another. Cause and effect. Actions power other actions and reactions. All leading to the same ending. There is no escaping it.
On the other side of the coin are those that believe fate is just a concept made of our hope. A way for creatures to explain the universe and bring comfort to troubling times. It's a means to place a collar on the uncomfortable. But is there really anything wrong to with someone grasping on to what hope they can find? To try and explain their troubles away?
For Euthalia though, she finds the concept of fate to be a beautiful idea. But it's just that; an idea. Fate is what we are and what we choose to be. It's the core idea of what makes us, us, and leads back to the choices we have made along the road of our lives. So then, why did Euthalia find herself losing herself amongst the stars in the night sky? Did she hope to find the answers to her own life within them?
Sighing, the mare silently made her way through the field of snowdrops and witch hazel, having intending to do a little late night gathering. However, instead her eyes scanned the tree lines and then rose back to the night sky above.
