It's a new year in the Kawani lands! Winter is in full swing and much of the land is covered in snow. Does your soquili do anything to acknowledge or celebrate the new year? Are they part of a herd or family that has a tradition or ceremony? Have they made a promise to start the new year with a clean slate and change themselves for the better?

Or did they simply try to stay warm and wait for the snow to melt and spring to arrive?

Write an RP responding to the above prompt. Your soquili should acknowledge the fact that it is a New Year - how they react to that is up to you.

Lantana shook the snow off of herself once agaiin and proceeded to look up at the sky with a grumpy face. “I don’t like this time of year.” She said as another snowflake flew down and hit her in the eye.

She shook her head due to the cold and wet thing that had assaulted her. “You know where we are yet?” She asked Butternut who had been looking at a map that she had pulled out of the backpack she carried around with her.

The zebra-striped companion shook her head. “It looks like it might be outdated. It says they’re supposed to be a break in these trees to look out for, but I’m not seeing anytning.” She said, moving her head closer to the map in case that would somehow help.

Lantana let out a grunt. “Shouldn’t you know your way already if you go back to your masked herd every year?” She wondered how her friend ever made it anywhere if she couldn’t even find her way back.

Butternut let out a small laugh. “You would be surprised at how well they keep themselves hidden. They really don’t want the wrong horses to go and find them.” Butternut said with a sigh before re-rolling the map with one of her hooves and putting it back into her backpack. “And they don’t like winter much either, which means they usually stay in the trees during this time. They still celebrate the coming of spring just… not outside.” She said with a huff before starting to move again as Latana followed her.

The unicorn shook her head, spreading more snowflakes that had fallen on her around. “We definitely should have tried coming here earlier. I want the sun and warmth again already!” If only she had magic that could heat herself, she would probably like winter a lot more. Instead she had to suffer the cold with a short mane and small wings that felt as though they had fallen off already.

She had decided to take Butternut’s invitation as she usually didn’t go and do anything for the new year, or for winter. Staying somewhere warm and going out as little as she possibly could was usually the priority for Lantana. “A fire would be nice…” She mumbled to herself as the two continued onward through the forest.

“Well when we get to my herd it should be a lot warmer there than it is out here.” The trees were large and ran deep and usually they could find foliage to keep themselves warmed in the winter. They just… had to find the heard. And it was getting harder to do so.

As if nature knew what they wanted to do, it decide that it needed to start snowing even harder, as though it was laughing at the two of them as they made their way throuh the belly-deep-for-them snow. “You sure there isn’t like, a tree we can just rest in and wait out this storm instead? I’m about to try to learn how to climb trees if we don’t get out of this snow soon.” It was very tempting. Sure, she had hooves, but she could still try it.

“We’re almost there, I can feel it.” Butternut replied as she continued to move forward. She was looking for a certain tree that looked like it had a large knot near it’s roots, that was the landmark that meant they were near the herd. “Ah, there it is!” She said moving as quickly as she could through the snow as she could to a tree that looked like it had something large and white sitting next to it. She moved some of the snow off of the trunk gnot to confirm it was the one they should be looking for. “We’re here! Just a bit longer and we’ll be out of this cold!” She said as she started to move more quickly, also wanting to get out of the frozen water on the ground.

“Finally.” Lantana mumbled to herself as she followed her friend, glad that the other was making the path through the snow which made moving through it easier for the unicorn. After another minute they managed to make it into a clearning where there was barely any snow on the ground, but a lot of grass and high trees with large branches that blocked out most of the flakes that were coming down. And in the middle of it was a large tree which seemed to have a hole in the middle of it.

Butternut turned towards Lantana excitedly. “Aren’t you excited? This will be so much fun!” She said before running towards the large hole. Lantana could only give Butternut a look before saying, “Let’s just get warmed up first.” She said, following her friend.
