I dont understand how to pronounce a word with the small つ. Like きって (kitte). Do i put a space in between the "ki" and the "te" or something?

yes, there's kind of a pause in the word. When I first started my Japanese, I had a lot of trouble with it too. If you know about reading music, it's best to think of it as a rest in the rythem.
Pick the speed you are going to speak, and try to tap out each syllable. Remember that each syllable gets one tap, including the small 'tsu,' the 'n' syllable and any words that have extended vowels.
It's good to start just reading simple words one at a time.
Gakkou. The syllables are 1)Ga 2)rest 3)ko 4)u
... looking back at this, I'm realizing my explanation doesn't help much at all. It's hard to explain this kind of thing over the internet. I hope this helped at least a little...
Pronounce the word "matted" very slowly. Notice that slight pause between "mat" and "ted"? That's the same pause that would go in きって. And it works for other any other small っ word.
