- I n t r o d u c t i o n -

First of all, I would like to thank you for stumbling apon this guild and taking the mere time to even read this. Secondly, I would like to welcome you to our humble guild and I hope you enjoy your time here. To begin with, we'll start with a quick history lesson:

- t h e . h i s t o r y . o f . t h e . G o t . G o t h ? . g u i l d -

The GotGoth? guild was originally a thread in the gaia guild forum. Made on Sat April 30th, 2005 8:34 pm, the original thread had tremendously good results. We were gaining posts and members at a clocking speed. Within a few weeks, our guild had over 6000 posts. By that time, I had decided to create a guild for it, and scraped up enough gold from donations and bumping to buy this guild.

Then on Fri May 20th, 2005 7:47 pm, just a month later, this guild came into effect.
Since then, we have also gained a high number of members and posts, which is all managed by our Moderators.

I swear you can find almost anything on this guide. If it has something to do with anything, its here. This guide is a massive index of all things goth related, guild-related or gaia-related. Its everything you need to know compacted into one, itty-bitty sticky. There's stuff here for newbies, info for goth-trainees, tips on how to be popular and productive at gaia, and stuff on lobotomies. Its all organized, numberized, indexized, glossarized, and its all grammerally and spellotically correct. However, if you can't find what you're looking for (though this is very unlikely,) or cannot find an answer to one of your questions, simply PM me or a Mod. We'd be happy to assist you.

As you might have already realized, I'm a complete and total neat freak. I like to have everything in complete order and up to date as much as possible. A neat guild is a happy guild. As well, myself and the Mods do our very best to help you out with any questions or concerns you might have, so don't be afraid to send us a PM.

- a . l i t t l e . m o r e . i n f o -

This guild also runs by an Admin (captain); Mod; Member; Private system. That means the Admins have the most power here, while the Public (or the browsing guilders) have none. This system is common in almost all guilds, and you should already now this. But in case you didn't, now you know.

- g o t h . a n d . d i s c r i m i n a t i o n -

As you may know, our guild has a Goth theme to it, as most of our members enjoys the darker things in life. If you're new to Goth, or have an interest in it, this is the place to learn a little about it and ask questions.

We all love dark things at this guild, and we also seem to get a little neglect from others for doing so. We don't like people causing this neglect towards us, and most of us don't care. If you don't like Goth then leave us alone. We don't bother you, you don't bother us. We do the have the right to defend ourselves when in the case of vulgar or discriminative comments, and will probably do so. This means, that if a various person walks in and starts calling us all "satanical freaks", then we have every right in the world to report her to Gaia Mods, or tell him/her off. (Considering it doesn't get out of hand. I don't want any discrimination from our side, either.) There has, in some cases, been a bit of trouble with discrimination, but much less so as with the old guild thread.

So no, Goths do not bite. Nor are they all Vampires or satanic (which society likes to stereotype us as). Most of us are quite very intelligent and friendly. Heck, some of the members aren't even into Goth. There are all kinds of people at this guild, and we accept every one of them.

But all people should be wise to give their respect to all ends of cultures or people, Goth or not. Without different beliefs, humanity would have no diversity.

- l a b e l s -

Well then, what do you want us to call ourselves? Simple fact is, without labels we cannot address who we are or who we represent. Though labels can be cruel and un-just when used against a person, but without them we are all the same. And part of being goth is about being different and walking out on the norm, even though many people think we all look and act the same, and are so quick to pick out the posers. Some people may disagree with me, and say that "labels are for cans", but everyone is intitled to their own opinion. But that does not mean you have to go about called everybody everything.

+ o n e + All basic rules that comply with this guild can be found on the home page, under the rules section. Other rules may or may not imply, depending on the situation.

+ t h r e e + Post in the correct forums, if you can't find a suitable place to make your topic, then just create a thread. (Considering it is not spamage.)

+ f o u r + Not too much spam please, if you have an undeniabled urge to spam, go to the spambox thread.

+ f i v e + Any topic/post you make can be closed/moved/deleted by the forums administrators/moderators.

+ s i x + Do not post gigantic images. They will be deleted. Instead, try to size them down.

+ s e v e n + Frequent "one smilie posts" or posts that consist of nothing but smilies/emoticons will not be tolerated. Do not do it. It makes it hard to reply to and shows you are not creative enough to make a proper reply with actual words...

+ e i g h t + Abuse of the PM/Email system and other messaging methods through fellow members, results in an instant ban. Abuse includes, but is not limited to; spamming, and hate messages. You my also be reported.

+ n i n e + Excessive obscenity, and being vulgar is not tolerated. You will be warned once to tone it down. If you do not comply, you will be banned for 66,666 days. And then some.

+ t e n + You should not publicly dispute or argue with a moderators or admins decision. It should be done in PM's.

+ e l e v e n + Any questions/comments/hatemail reports can be sent to admin Dizzy through PM's or email.

+ t w e l v e + Have fun, express yourself. We aren't too strict here... but we will take action if needed.

+ t h i r t e e n + If you repeatedly violate any of these rules, your membership will be suspended or banned.

+ f o r t e e n + If you post art in the art section, make sure you're the one who drew it. Plagairism is stupid and disgusting. Plagairists will have their name, as well as anyone else's name who has been vulgar onto the 'dungeon of doom' post. *

+ f i f t e e n + Also about the art section, don't post any images containing hentai, porn, nudity, yaoi, yuri, etc...

+ s i x t e e n + Don't double post. But if you do accidently do so, me or another mod will simply delete the extra post.

+ s e v e n t e e n + Labling, discrimination, cultism, specism, and racism isn't allowed and will not be tolerated. In short; diss my peeps and my posse, and be banned. Also, if you're going to argue about posers and emos and crap, make sure I'm offline. I have a nag for arguing endlessly. And I always win.

+ e i g h t e e n + When chatting, please refrain from being bitchy or prissy. It annoys the hell out of people.

+ n i n e t e e n + Also when chatting, don't complain about "Omg! The world hates me...!! crying " or "I'm going to commit suicide today because my boyfriend left me..." or things along that line. If you have problems, go see a consulor. Or you can PM me, I'm good at listening to people. Just don't take it to the forums, kay?

+ t w e n t y + Members that do not post regularly, or at least 5 times, will have their member status deleted. Omg. This is such a lie. We don't do that. So no worries, you're safe. Unlike some guilds, we don't delte your membership unless you do something reeallly horrible.

+ t w e n t y - o n e + I do not suggest you make any donations directly to the guild account. This is because we do not have access to this account yet. We don't know why, but Gaia doesn't let you access the guild account until a long time. However, we do have a mule account that you can forward your donations to. If you wish to do so, then just skip down this thread until you see the donation help topic.

We've numbered the rules for easy and simple refernece.

Despite what you might think, the rules here really aren't that scrict.

--- G r a m m a r - I s - G o d ---

I cannot stress enough that people on this guild should use proper grammar. If I cannot read it, then no one else can read it. English grammar makes the world go round, without it we could never be able to understand each other.

~ Please do not use speak that uses numbers instead of words, you 633K5.

~ Simple 'lol' or 'btw' is tolerated in the most minimum amounts. (I'm guilty of using 'Lol' a lot...) Over use of 'g2g', 'ttyl', 'm/', 'lmfao', or others is annoying.

~ Puntuation is extremely important. Be sure to use commas, for it makes things more organized and neater.

~ Do not post reply consisting of only a smilie, such as ' xd ', ' 3nodding ', 'o.O' or dot usage like '....'.

~ I highly suggest you use creative writing. The more creative, the more interesting. Everyone loves a person who makes RP and chatboxes more lively.

~ Being a Goth guild, you may want to refer to some old theme words; such as: 'thou', 'alas', 'doest', etc... it makes it seem more official and cool.

~ And if your going to swear, do it properly. Not like dis u fcking biatches.

~ Hill Billie speak is gross and isn't tolerated. Same for 'gangsta' talk.

Lurichan's Newbie Survival Guide!

This is for all the newbies with questions about how to make gold and other common things I've seen that new people might need help with. If you have any additions you would like to make, feel free to post them, and I shall attempt to add them to the list. Thank you. ^_^

1.Join Guilds. This is important because sometimes when the forums are down the guilds still work and vice versa. Poll guilds are the best to join starting out because you can gain 10 gold (usually) from polls. It only works well if you have two or more windows open and alternate back and forth. Basically it is a good idea to join guilds with the same common interests as yourself so you can make friends with people with similar interests.

2.Multitask. Have a minimum of two windows open at any point in time. This allows you to gain gold quickly if you have say, one thread you are reading, another you are posting in, and a third window you are taking polls in. Trust me it works well, and you gain gold much more quickly than someone with only one window open.

3.Read Rules. Each forum has it's own set of rules posted at the top, if you don't want to get in trouble, make sure to read them. The same thing goes with threads. Read the first post of any thread you enter to make sure you know what rules there are that might not be a part of the Gaian Terms of Services (TOS) but still apply.

4.Beg in Designated Areas Only. If someone tells you not to beg, then don't do it. It's actually very simple, but people often times don't follow it. Make sure you know if begging is allowed before you do so. Charity's and Chatterbox are usually the two places that allow begging the most, but individual threads still might state in the first few posts not to. Make sure you know if you are allowed to beg before posting. If you don't follow this rule, you can annoy and anger other gaians rather quickly.

5.Wear Cloths. Buy yourself something inexpensive for your avatar, or at least equip your peasant clothing. If you don't know what I'm talking about go to the Profile and look at the big picture of your avatar. There is an area that says "Customize Me" Click it and put your cloths on. Do not forget to hit the button that says "Save Changes" or else your changes will not stick.

6.Click It. Anything that bounces across you screen, click on it. Those are random special events that happen to gaians periodically. Enchanted trunks, pink boxes and blue boxes are all things you should click on when you see them. Then they will show up in your inventory. There are items inside. Whether you want to know what is inside the box or sell it to someone else is up to you.

7.Selling and Trading. To trade with other people you first need to get a trading pass. Trading passes cost 500 gold and can be bought at the gaian bank. When you have a little bit more time under your belt you can also buy a vending pass which costs 1000 gold and allows you to sell items in the marketplace.

8.Learn Abbreviations. There are a few things you should learn in order to understand people more easily. 1k means 1000. The k is often times used as an abbreviation for gold amounts to make it easier to type it out. TOS stands for Terms of Service. There are more, but those are the two main ones that need to be learned quickly.

9.Be Courteous. Being rude to other people will gain you nothing but the animosity of others. Being nice to people can often times be its own reward and lead to fun conversations. If you are exceedingly rude to someone either insulting them or just attacking them in general that is referred to as flaming, and can be reported and get you into trouble. If you continue to be rude in a thread over a long period of time it can be called trolling which can get you temporarily banned.

10.It's Only A Game. Remember that this is only a game. Even if you don't like some parts about it, don't take it too seriously. Some items are expensive because they are hard to get, and yes sometimes it can be quite involving, but don't let yourself get depressed or upset over not being able to get items right away. The best reward can be finally buying that expensive item you have wanted and saved up for for weeks.

11.No Insulting The Staff. The staff works hard to keep this game going for us all. Because gaia is a complex system that is difficult to maintain, sometimes it will break down. Don't insult the staff just because gaia is glitching, they are doing their best to make this fun for everyone. If a database is down(and refreshing doesn't work), try again in 10 minutes. If your pages aren't loading right, try another browser (Mozzilla has the most problems with the site during upgrades), or if that doesn't work try restarting your computer.

12.Dont post on topics you don't know about. On the boards, there are rather aggressive people on there. If you go in and wish to post your opinion, be able to back it up! So many posts turn to arguements because of people wandering in and saying things that do not relate to the topic.

13. Don't go to GD or ED (gerneral discussion or extended discussion)- newbs, no matter how intelligent, are oftentimes flamed because it's a weapon to lend credence to weak arguments made by those who have been around a bit longer. Stick to discussion threads in guilds as it's less demeaning.

14.Don't start topics like: I want a BF or I want a GF Your thread will be deleted by the mods and everyone will flame you. And if it isn't obviouse you wont find etheir a BF or GF. If you are that desperate join a Romance RP.

If newbies understand this early on gaia will be a better place. Among those who flame them will be me. wink

15.Do not purposely act n00bish. I tell you now, it annoys the hell out of people. Don't even start. It makes people think you're unintelligent and stupid. Not cool.

18.Please don't start a thread that's already made I'm tired of seeing people make an identical thread to another. We have many art threads for example so please just post in the ones that are already made. Same goes for poetry. Also, may I add, that we have a sticky that's there so you can introduse yourself, no need to start a thread saying you're new to the guild.

Some threads might not be considered actual 'topics' and may be ralated to spam or advertisements.

Here at GotGoth? We don't like unorganized or unindentified threads and advertisement/spam posts. If a Mod or Admin reconizes your post as being something that doesn't belong, we have a right to remove it or move it into a specific thread/forum made for that type of posting. As well as that, any vulgar or discriminiative threads shall be deleted!

These types may include:

+ Threads that make a direct or indirect attack on another member of this guild.

+ Threads that break any of the rules seen on the guild homepage, as well as anywhere stated on this thread.

- This includes posts that are against a religion. We have had problems in the past with those who are for anti-christianity, and anti-religious statements are not tolerated in this guild. Those who post things of that subject shall be lectured, and then have their post deleted with the threat of banning him or her.

+ Ad threads; that gives a link. Ex: "excellent opportunity for members!" (its a thread for a lottery). Ex2: "Check out my guild" (link to another guild).

In these cases, Mods will notify you and have the thread deleted and the ad moved to our "advertisements" thread. The advertisements thread is deadicated to your ads, and anyone can post an ad there.

However, we can also post a link to your guild through the links or "partnership guilds" on this page. All you have to do is send me a PM.

+ Unidentified or spam threads are also not tolerated. We have a thread for spamming called the "Spambox" and if you want to spam, go there. Unidentified threads includes titles like "Blah" or "Sup?" and has no real theme or value.

+ General SPAM posts are evil. Do you have any idea how unnerving it is to be having a decent conversation with a friend, and then someone pops out of nowhere and screams "BWAHAHAHAHA HEEHEHEHEIOHEHE!!" in your face?! Spam goes in the SPAMBOX. If I see it anywhere else, I shall stab your eyes out with a spork.

+ Topics labled "I need a GF / BF!!!". If you're that desperate go join a romance RP or something.

Amazingly, some people don't know how to become a member of a guild by sending a request form, and, instead, send a PM to me. So thus, I am going to give you all a quick tutoral on how to become a member.

Step 1: First, go to the guild homepage. Make sure you read every single little word on the homepage.

Step 2: If you like the guild, and want to be a member, you can now click the little button on the upper right of the page, labled "request to join".
If you've already read the homepage, then you know that we require no essay from you on why you want to join. Instead, just jot down a few words and send it off. Myself or a Mod shall add you to the members list.

Step 3: You shall receive a PM automatically, replying that you have been accepted in the guild. To access our guild, go to your profile, click on guilds, and then our guild.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Admins and Mods at the Got Goth? Guild cannot access our guild donation account. This is because Gaia doesn't allow any guild to access accounts for some time. Fortunately, lurichan developed a mule account so that you can now put your donations through to there.

Most of what has to be said here has already been said in one of the above posts.

As a Mod, you have the responsiblity to organize and monitor the guild as well as possible. If it wasn't for you guys, my job would be twice as hard. wink

---> Mods have the ability to delete any posts made by anybody. As well as edit them.

If you find a post that doesn't belong in a thread, delete it.
If you find a post that has spam in it, delete it.
If you find a post that has vulgar comments, delete it.
If you find a post that has labling/discrimination in it, delete it.
If you find a post that has craptacular spelling in it, delete it.
If you find a post that you don't like, delete it.

---> Mods also have the power to *gasp* ban people.

If you find that a person (member) has repeatedly broken the rules after you had warned them, do not hesitate to ban them.

If you find that a non-member has repeatedly broken the rules after you had warned them, report the post. Or report them to a Gaia Mod.

---> Mods can post stickies and announcements too.

Yes, Mods have the power to do this. But I don't suggest you over-use this privlage, for too many stickies make for an un-happy guild. If you post a stickie or annoucement, but it is getting few or no replies; I will delete. As goes with all posts made with non-Mod members.

I trust that a Moderator will be able to use his or her best judgement on all requirements. If you have any questions, problems, or troubling suituations, do not hesitate to PM me.

Sad, sad people who break the rules and end up here.


sgt~cloud ---> He insults everyone, (including me) and spams like hell all over the guild. We ban him and send notices to (real) Mods, to have him removed. But once again, the sgt.cloud rises from his crypt to kill us all here at GotGoth?. With an onslaught of rude and vulgar comments, his micheavious deeds are almost seasonal.

Don't do this people. Simply go to the bottom of the home page, and click the 'become a member' button. Its not rocket science.

I choose who I think will give the best efforts as being a Mod.

As an Admin, I can't control every little thing that goes on in this guild, so I have my Mods to do the grudge work. Mods are people who pick out the bad posts and delete the worthless threads. They also have the power to ban members as well. My little Mod minions post their own announcements and stickies too. Being a Mod takes a lot of time and effort.
