Hello people,
You all know me as Marek, or just by my screen name on here, and I'm glad to know all of you!

Anyway, I am a Co-Founder of my school's first ever Anime Club.
It was hard getting approval from staff, but our new principal actually was all for it. They had one at his old school, BUT, we now have a major issue:

CONTENT!

I need people to help me out on suggest animes that would be appropriate for a 14-18 old's vieiwing pleasure, all the while falling in along with school criteria for appopriate content.
This is proving to be a difficult task.

OH!, and another thing, this does not have to be limited to just series and movies, you can suggest some manga, music, and artistry that you find interesting.

Any and all suggestions would be nice, and very much appreciated.
You don't even have to talk about anime that would help me at school, suggest some for me to watch on my own.
I haven't seen that much >.<

Azumanga Daioh - A fluffy slapstick comedy about high-school girls (all-ages)

Witch Hunter Robin - An intense mystery thriller, dealing with religion and politics (13+)

These are two very good series. I'll mention more as I remember them...

Thank you very much.
I've heard of Which Hunter Robin, and a friend of mine has some of that, so I shall be seeing it very soon.

My school had one, too, but with our new president, most of the old members don't go including me. Besides, I can get to conventions on my own. Well, I can't suggest much, but I can say what our club had last year.

animes we watched (from what I remember):
-DNAngel
-Spiral
-Inuyasha ( talk2hand I'm not really a fan)

mangas we had in our library:
-Marmalade Boy
-Zodiac P.I.
-Model (pretty good)
-Fairies' Landing
-Kill Me Kiss Me
-Sailor Moon
-Eternity (also pretty good)
-Comic Party
-Jing: King of Hell (I think I spelled that right)
-and a ton of others I can't remember

Well, our library was on a donate-only basis, and I don't suggest doing that. I have some that are missing (Eternity 1+2, Kill Me Kiss Me 2), and people often don't come back even with manga in their hands. It'd be a lot less hectic if the club simply did some sort of fundraising and bought the most requested manga.

Also, our second president from last year (first one resigned) made sure we kept with all the school rules, meaning everything rated Older Teen (16+) had to be taken out and returned to their rightful owners. It's stupid, but that happened. That's why I don't have many decent animes and mangas listed up there. I say, "If you can get away with that, than do it." Most people in high school are almost if not already 16, anyways.

Animes I love:
-Witch Hunter Robin- I'm just starting to get into that
-Gunslinger Girl-Using girls that can easily disappear (no family, no recovery in hospital, etc) and "fixing" them with artificial organs to use them as assasins. (OT, I believe. Drama, light gore.)

Mangas I love:
-Samurai Deeper Kyo- A nice, crazy medicine man with a split personality disorder (sort of) in which he becomes a legendary sociopathic samurai for 10 minutes. Watch as he befriends (or captures and has as a "slave" hehe) a young bounty hunter woman who plans to turn his head in when she gets the chance. (OT. Action.)
-Model- A drunk man is dropped off at a girl's house by her friend. The girl is an artist and decides to draw him while he is passed out. Too bad his price for being the model is her blood. (T. Drama.)
-Basilisk-Two clans that have been sworn enemies for over 4 hundred years were forced in a truce. Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa has dissolved the truce and selected ten ninja from each clan who must fight to the death; the surviving clan will rule for the next 1000 years. Two lovers, each from a different clan, are ready to marry, but have been selected to fight each other. (Mature. Action, gore.)
-Genshiken-Saki Kasukabe's boyfriend Makoto is everything she dreamed he'd look like, except he's into anime. Watch as she tries to transform Makoto into a normal guy while chasing him through conventions and learning more about him than she wanted to know. (OT. Comedy.)
-Kami-Kaze-Everyone is after the legendary Girl of Water, but no one knows where to find her. Even if they could, they don't know how long it would take for her powers awaken in the body she chose to possess if they haven't already. They are after her to unlock a trans-dimensional prison that holds the fabled 88 beasts except for a rouge swordsman who is determined to protect her at all costs. (OT. Action, horror, gore.)
-Eternity-A shaman girl finds three boys that are seemingly unrelated and tries to prove to them that they are the reincarnation of 3 ancient samurai heros. While just trying to survive through the violence at school and life, they realize, little by little, that she may just be right. (T. Action, comedy)

Sorry if I'm not going to put any description of the movies/series but it is pretty PG-13.

Fushigi Yugi, Bleach, Naruto, AIR, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Gundam Seed/ Gundam Seed Destiny, Fruits Basket.

I will post more once I got some more.

I almost forgot deathnote. It's an OT manga, too. I like it, but it's kind of hard to explain without giving everything away. It's about this guy that finds a notebook called a deathnote because whoever's name he writes in it will die. Well, the deathnote belongs to a shinigami (god of death), who becomes "friends" with the new owner. The new owner decides to rid the world of evil, but it's so obvious that the government is starting to suspect there is some unknown force killing all these people. It's very good. A suspense, almost criminal suspense type story with some very light gore.

Both excellent choices for that age range. ^_^

Also good picks:
Shrine of the Morning Mist:
Rated: 13+
This is an anime that has monsters, demons, love, and psydo-magial girl attacks. It's a bit cute, but still fun to watch.

Magic Knight Rayearth:
Rating: 13+
A tale of three girls pulled into the magical land of Cephiro in order to save it. Lots of magic and fighting with a lighthearted side as well. This one was done by CLAMP.

Pretear:
Rating: TV PG
A story of a girl who must save the earth from someone who is sucking away it's mystical energies known as leafe. This does have magical girl aspects as well, with a transformation sequence that does have sailor moon-esque nudity.

Slayers, Slayers Next, Slayers Tri:
Rated: TV PG
This tale of misadventure stars the one and only famous sorceress Lina Inverse. Spanning three seasons the story is set in a fantasy land were monsters and demons lurk. With her swordman friend Gourry at her side, as well as many other friends joining in on the adventure, this tale of mischief and adventure takes many different twists and turns before reaching it's conclusion.

Outlaw Star:
Rated: 13+
This story follows Gene Starwind and his crew as they find themselves wrapped up in the Mystery of the Galactic Lay Line. Hounded by pirates, and unsure of how to make ends meat while pioleting a space ship, this unlikely crew will find themselves faced with a serious dilemia.
Small Warning: The first episode and the Hot Springs episode do push the boundaries a bit for the high school level.

I would also have to Second the Fushigi Yugi vote as well as Genshiken.

Anime I Would Warn Against for High School Level Clubs:

Love Hina: There is quite a bit of nudity in this anime, and even though the actual content really isn't all that bad, fanservice might easily be misconstrued as something lewd.

Chobits: A wonderful love story between a college boy and his persocom, however there are quite a few references to Hideki having a collection of porn known as "yummies" and there are a few key points to the plot that have to do with them not being able to be intimate due to the location of a certain on/off switch.

Revolutionary Girl Utena: The first season might be all right for the casual viewer, but as the second and third season progress a lot more sexual references are made, including between a few sibblings which might not only disgust and annoy your club members, but cause trouble with your advisor due to morality issues.

I hope that this is a bit helpful. It's by no means a complete listing of anime I'm familar with, but at least touches on a few good ones.

Good Point, it was on the too mention list in my head, but I haven't gotten through all of those yet.
Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) is a great anime. It's in depth character development and plot twists are not only entertaining but also heart wrenching at times.

.hack//sign:
What would you do if your consiouness was stuck within a video game and you couldn't log out? This is exacty what happens to a player of the game called "The World" with the screen name of Tsubasa. Quite simply he can't log out no matter how hard he tries. An intersting examination of the society of online gaming. This anime is also part of the .hack project which spans the platforms of anime, video games, and manga.

Oh My Goddess(OVA)
Non-Rated, Released before Anime Ratings
Accidently dial the wrong number and get a goddess instead of pizza? That is exactly what happens to Keiichi Morisato. A cute love story between a mortal and a goddess, the plot is a little condensed in the OVA, but I haven't watched the TV series Ah! My Goddess yet, so I can't give an opinion on it yet.

Record of Lodoss War
This anime has a very D&D feel to it. The main focus is around Parn and his adventuring group as they stive to save the world, and Parn works towards some day becoming a knight. It's been a while since I've seen it, but it's still got lots of action and adventure to it.

Warn Against Part 2
Excel Saga After a lot of debating in my mind over this, I finally came to the conclusion that Excel Saga has a bit too many sexual inuendos in it. The rating itself is 17+ mostly due to swearing and violence, but the last episode of the series was purposely not fit for television, and there are two episodes in particular that if an adult passed by at conspicious moments it could be trouble for your club. I'm all for the madcap mis-adventures of Excel but I don't think it would be appropriate for a high school level club.

Try Inuyasha or Naruto. Well, Inu has cussing in it, but Naruto is good! So is Kare Kano.

The anime club I ran/was in for 4 years played all sorts of crazy stuff, including those 3 that are listed. It depends on what episodes you show and how long you plan on showing them, because the first few episodes, save for the "turn on" bit in Chobits is quite tame. (o___O)

It all comes down to what sort of advisor you have. The one mine had was very open to whatever could be played. Since you're just starting out, I'd start off with something that might draw big crowds like Naruto, Bleach, FMA, and all those other ones that have huge hype, then when things settle down, start showing more "obscure" things that some people who are just getting into the whole "anime thing" haven't heard of.

Also, if you're into not just showing all anime all the time, you could branch out a bit into Japanese dramas which are quite great. :3

Trinity Blood and Hellsing are intersting from what I've heard.

I would suggest against Hellsing for a high school anime club due to content.
