-coughs- okay... but first, my lame attempt at 'poetry' on this lil ... 'event' I had this morning... XD I am SO not a poet... XDD

As I do my morning checks
I go into Putumayo, Oh putumayo.. my beloved brand!
As I check the updated sections
My eyes fall on three new items!

Oh putumayo! How adorable are these!
Mits and Scarfs! Leggings too!
They all match! I must have them so!

As I rush to xe.com to convert the yen..
my heart crashes then shatters.
$31 for mits!? $51 for scarfs!? I wont even try the leggings now!
I don't have that money! Putumayo how I curse you!

Dangling this cute set;
Right before my eyes!
Yet I'm broke as can be! And they'll be gone before I can!

They look to be machine knitted...
Oh! I know! I'll knit my own!
There putumayo! I got past that!
I'd love to own brand things... but if the price ain't right... I'm sad to say.

Now I must gather my yarn and needles!
Look up patterns for mits! Figure out the scarf lenght and width!
Stripe patterns too! and fringe!

Haha Putumayo! I bet you and the adorable set!
Though it may take me till next winter to finish this set.
I shall have my own cute winter gear;
That I, I made myself!

-coughs- XD I sounded really cute in my head... dunno how cute it sounds now... XDD

but anyways... the items in question are..

http://www.putumayo-home.com/t163.htm
http://www.putumayo-home.com/t169.htm
http://www.putumayo-home.com/t158.htm

now with the scarf I figure I cast on 26 stitches... because this scarf I'm already working just for fun is 26 stitches... and it seems to be wide enough... I figure the stripe pattern is... 2 to 4 rows... does anyone have any recomended needles I use?

and with the mits... I usually find patterns like those when I don't want to... but I've tried searching for patterns for those types of mits... and I can't find them O_O; my google-foo is broken or something D:

and I dunno if I'll make the leggings because I wear pants... XD I dont' wear dresses or skirts or shorts... :/ ah well..

I think the needle size would depend on what weight yarn you're using and what you want your finished scarf to look like. I think with something like that, I'd probably use sport weight yarn and maybe size 6 needles, which would make the stripes 4 rows tall.

If you're using a heavier yarn, I'd probably to up to a size 8 and make the stripes 3 rows tall.

I'm still just a beginning knitter, but here is my 2 cents worth.....
I think size 8 needles are a good size for worsted weight yarn.
If it were me I'd look for a mitten pattern that I could extend the cuff on or maybe an arm-warmer pattern that I could add a mitten to.
Considering how light-weight the stuff in the pictures looks I think sport-weight yarn would be better to replicate these items if you can get it.
