Okay, I was in a forum full of the usual ignorant people and I posted the following, and I was wondering if I said the right thing:

Okay..apparently everyone here is completely niscient (ignorant) to what goth actually is.

Goth isn't a religious subculture, but a subculture none the less which finds its roots in the early 80's. We are not all satanic, depressed, Manson fans. Quite the contrary: I'm goth, and christian

Goth and Emo are two different things, yet some of us claim both. Unlike the common sterotype, goths DO NOT wear all black all the time (most of us can be found wearing color, sometimes.).

As for the music, we listen to a wide range: darkwave, goth rock, dark cabaret, I'll give examples:

Goth Rock:
The Cure (yes, their early albums such as Staring at the Sea, Pornography, and Disintigration are goth rock. As is Bloodflowers.)
Sister's of Mercy (The album Floodland is goth rock.)
Souixie and the Banshees
Bauhaus
Joy Division
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Echo and the Bunnymen

Darkwave:
The Cruxshadows
Rasputina

Dark Cabaret:
Voltaire

Now, for the bands mistaken for goth:
Marilyn Manson
AFI
HIM
NIN
etc.

Some bands and induviduals drive their style from the 18th century gothic movemnt such as EGA (Elegant Gothic Aristocrat dress or victorian style dress.

However, it is almost impossible to tell you anyguidelines for being goth because their aren't any: some goths listen to goth rock, some listen to classical, some dress more punk, some dress more victorian, etc.

goths are induviduals, not like normal people, in the fact that they don't mind being different and expressing themselves accordingly. We are not bloodthirsty, suicidal, homicidal, depressed, parent-hating, white- supremist idiots!!

I'm highlighting the last paragraph because it's so right.

I think you kind of contradicted yourself there just a bit. You gave guidelines in a way then said there werent any guidelines..... I would think that you wouldnt have to dress a certain way or listen to specific music( like you listed) to be apart of the Goth culture..... I wear Abercrombie and I'm goth. I listen to all kinds of music but it doesnt make me anyless goth at heart. I'm secure in my gothiness! whee j/k by the way

Pretty well done, but when you try too hard it can lead to self-contradiction (like Airwren said)

Hmm. Do you think that I may have confused them further? After I posted this I asked if they had any further questions. Do you think that may help?

You were informative. 3nodding At the same time your opinions are misleading. So its good you asked them if they had any questions.

That's fairly well done, but leaves some room for people to question you. In the future, you should assault them with information the way I do. So flooded with information, they generally believe it to be true.
