Conclusion: Shikamaru is holding Hidan with Kage Nui or Kage Kubi Shibari =O

The reason why Hidan can move is because Shika is not restraining him with Kage Mane, instead, he binds his arm before he attacks him.

Shikamaru has a VERY low stamina. At least in comparison to everyone else. So he won't be holding Hidan for long. If he can't stand, he's probably too weak to use his jutsu effectively.

Think of it like arm wrestling. Your arm has a limited strength, and tires after a while. Think of Kage Nui as his third arm. It is actually probably MORE flimsy and weaker than a real arm, yet somehow it holds tension. Instead of snapping, the jutsu loses it's strength, and reverts back to the caster.

I don't think it would be right, or likely for him to die, though it appears that Naruto's team could forget him just long enough for Hidan to kill him. It was naive of Shikamaru to tell Hidan how he tricked him. Shikamaru could've continued to fake it, and got Hidan going for a while. But instead, he decided to tell him. Shikamaru could have convinced Hidan that he missed a vital point. But instead, he basically said, "Here's my weakness, kill me! :D"

But I see your point. Shikamaru is holding Kage Nui limp because he is tired, at the last minute he could pull tension on it... but it would buy him a minute at the most. Hope Yamato is smart enough to go, "Hey, wasn't this a four-man cell?"

This makes me remember his battle against Tayuya, he's just trying to make some time until he gets rescued. Gee, can he ever defeat someone with his own hands? (he already defeated him mentally).

Does Shikamaru have enough chakra to break Hidan's arm with Kage Nui?

He wasn't expecting a rescue. That time he was expecting to die. He started panicking. D:
He really needs to gain some stamina. I don't know how one would do that, though. Diet? I mean, we hardly see who eats what.

Right now? Probably not. Unless he's faking it. It's hard to determine how long he's actually been using the jutsu... It requires a lot of chakra to do that. Just like when you pull on something, it requires a lot of strength. It's not easy to break someone's arm. I think it would be awesome if he did.

Was he? I thought he was just trying to choke Tayuya with what he had left.
I think you're born with an amount of chakra, and that's all you're gonna have, nothing more nothing less, kinda like Furyoku in Shaman King.
He just did it, he performed the Kage Nui when Hidan was still stunned by the attack.

Yes, but he ran out of stamina. "This is it." He says. "Don't panic!" Not exact quotes, obviously.
I guess if that's how it is in the manga. But Stamina =/= Chakra. Stamina is one part of Chakra.

Chakra is made of two components. Mental and Physical energy.

Stamina is run by your energy, your fuel, so what you ate that day, how much you've exercised, and it's also run by your motivation; your desire to accomplish something.

Someone can't be born with an amount of chakra, in my speculation, because Kakashi's chakra has clearly gone far up since he was a kid. Same with Tsunade, and the other Sannin. They are stronger and more powerful.

He just did what? You mean Kage Nui was there AFTER he sliced him? Then maybe he has a chance. But he couldn't stand... so I'm really... on the fence. If he can't stand, his stamina is very low.

I think Shika is now being ran by his Willpower, cause probably, that's all it's left of him.

Yeah, he slit his throat, and when he was in the ground, Shika performed Kage Nui.

I think he made a BIG mistake at the beggining, when he used Kage Mane to bind both Akatsuki members...he was practically wasting chakra.

I would agree with you if that were not a complete speculation. I don't know how much stamina he "has." D:

AHHH. There's something I missed. Looks like Shikamaru is playing possum again.

I think it was a good idea, but he underestimated their strength. Perhaps if they were weaker. I personally think he wasted the most stamina running away with Hidan. That's pretty tiring, controlling someone AND running... That's like jamming on the petal in your gas guzzling 1970 Ford. D: Sputter, sputter, poot.

You mean how much Stamina he has right now, or at the beggining of the mission?

But that was necessary to accomplish the plan.

He's trying to deceive Hidan with the same plan, over and over.

Well, okay. I mean, RIGHT NOW. As Hidan is chuckling, and swinging a blade around, Shikamaru on his knees.
At he beginning of the mission he was low as it was. He stayed up way late the night before; maybe didn't even sleep (which is not like him), who knows if he ate, he was drizzling a cigarette on his way out, he was worn from the last battle... who knows... But it wasn't his strongest day.

Edit: Knowing his mom, she made him eat. xd Unless he never went home.

I don't see what you mean by "it was necessary." I know you're trying to sound slick and smart, but you're telling me things I already know.

The key to tricking someone over and over is not telling them your plan. Shikamaru always chooses a plan, dismisses it, and builds one off of that plan. These transitions, however, are doomed to somehow fail. If he transitions incorrectly, it could be fatal.

Why would Hidan explode? His jutsu doesn't work backwards.

Shikamaru says a lot of things. About half the time he's lying. So we can't really know. >_>;
