so ive had some experience with RPGs before, so here are some things you should take in mind when going into one of the rpgs we have set up

1. no cybering(like online sex sex or anything like that) we come here to have fun, not read filthy porn, if you want to do that stuff (god forbid stare ) you can do that in a pm or something

2. these threads are for RPing only, dont come in like "need money cause im to lazy to work for it" please advertise in the general discussion area, but i dont suggest you do that anyway.

3.lets be nice here people dont get into fights here, we are all here to have fun ok mrgreen

4.this is the most important rule of all

HAVE FUN!

A quick addition by DT...
Quote:

--Some Notes on Literacy--

In roleplays sometimes the creator will ask for you to be 'literate' in your posts. While many people have their own definitions as to what 'literate' actually is, genrally speaking these are the criteria:

1) You write as if you are taking part in writing a story. This can mean:
*Background description
*Character description
*In depth dialouge
*3rd person perspective
* no '~' or '*' to indicate one is doing action
*Out Of Character speech should be in [brackets], away from the rp text
Baiscally you try to be detailed and explore your character and the environment. For example:
WRONG: *Sits on a tree stump* Yeah whatever.
RIGHT: Sarah moved to sit on a tree stump, resting her head in her hands with a huff. She wasn't used to being dictated to, and couldn't retain any civility in her repy. "Yeah, whatever." she said, dismissively.

2)Literacy usually implies detail. I've been in rps where the creator has set a 5-line minimum, or even a two paragraph minimum to your posts. Naturally this means you have to be descriptive. While some rpers seem to punish 1-line posts in a literate role play, here we're more leniant. The general idea is: "Try to force yourslef to be more descriptive/detailed than perhaps you were going to be - make an effort to write a good post."
One line posts are often necessary even in a literate rp, but see the diferance here:
WRONG: I never said that!
RIGHT: She span around, her eyes flashing in anger. "I never said that!"
Both short posts, but one is more substantial, and genrally more interesting/fun to read. Remember, the aim of a literate rp is to really get into the skin of your characters, and create a story with each other.

3) Punctuation, and basic rules of English.
Anyone who has seen me in the guild will know about my typoes. They're terrible - really dismal, and I do my best to reign them in and correct them. But they serve as a good example here : while limited typoes etc are allowed in literate rps, people expect you to use a spellchecker. They expect you to adhere to your basic rules of grammar. Just like you wouldn't expect to publish something with half-assed grammar, you are not expected to rp like that either.
Think about:
*Full stops, commas, colons, semi colons (NOT: he was walking to the street he stopped and looked around oh my god he said)
*Speech marks
*Paragraphs
*Capital letters etc
In other words, be legible.

4) Respect and Context
In a literal rp (as well as almost any rp, really), one -when joining- must respect the world the creator has made. Often, this means people avoid fan or cliched characters, but it depends on the topic (eg a literal naruto rp naturally uses fan characters). This is just an extension of a Godmode rule.
Basically, if people are having a serious, literate fantasy rp, they will probably not take kindly to someone diving in playing as a Hyper Legolas, slashing and defeating every monster, while spouting off cliched quotes/mannerisms from the LOTR films. Not only is it unorigional, but it can terribly disrupt an rp.
Literate rps are especially wary to Mary/Gary-sues too. If you dn't know what one of those is, basically it's a majorly cliched character, who is often impossibly strong/beautifu/brilliant-in-every-way.
Also beware of what I call the angsty-sue : strong/brilliant/ but so incredibly hardened-by-life-"oh-my-god-the-world-is-so-cruel"-"looks-at-all-my-Kewl-scars"-emo/angsty type.
Lack of creativity swings both ways don'tcha know XD

5) Follow the rp creator's individual rules/guidelines.

And that's about it! Literate rps can be some of the most in depth and interetsing. If the creator decides to specify his/her rp as literate, then make sure to think about these above points.

Happy rping!
