People get this mixed this up all the time.
He went to the store. As in, he left, bought something, and came back.
He has gone to the store. As in, he left and will be back soon.
Tell me if you ever see these get mixed up and does it bother you.

I don't get them mixed up, and I don't often see people mixing them up.
Even if I did, I doubt it would bother me much. Most English verbs make no distinction between preterit and perfect; it's only a matter of time before the rest follow suit.
