My English class is doing a unit on India. Therefore, we are reading books by Indian authors. After speeding through Nectar in a Sieve and A Fine Balance and halfway through The City of Joy, it suddenly dawned upon me. The reason I enjoy reading these books was simple: Indian authors tend to have almost a more "mechanical" grasp of the English language, and tend to use the English language more eloquently and quite a bit better than English and American authors, as well as authors writing in English of any other cultural background.

Anyone agree? Disagree? Cath a grammatical error? Just want to chat? Well, reply away!

Also, I have noticed that despite being quite eloquent, the same words seems to pop up in books by different authors, and not just the cultural terms like "ghee" and "dhal," either. Words like "perfunctory," "dolefully," "encumbrance," and others.
