There needs to be a better understanding of the English language as a whole for anyone who speaks it. If you can comprehend how a language works, you are more likely to use it the right way, and excell a little further in anything you do. Vocabulary is one very important example, one who has diction, has the power of communication. When you find someone who uses more complicated words in his average conversations, you are more likely to discuss things like politics, new ideas, and important subjects that matter with him/her, less gossip and nonsense like that. Not saying that people who use 'big words' don't gossip, it is just more likely that they won't. Punctuation is another one. The average person doesn't know where the semi colon goes. Punctuation is falling further and further away from a typers reach. People just don't use the coma, or the apostrophe anymore. Heck, some people don't even know the difference between "it's" and "its". I need opinions on this matter. I thought it might be a good discussion topic.
