I have a question. When you are typing a sentence, and the end is n parenthesees, does the end quotation mark go inside or otside the second parenthesee?

Example:
My favorite color is blue (sky blue.)
----------------------------^
or
My favorite color is blue (sky blue).
-----------------------------^

Which one is right?

I'm not sure, but I am pretty sure it's 'My favorite color is blue (sky blue).'.

Or it might even be 'My favorite color is blue. (sky blue)'

I'm pretty sure it's the first one. "My favorite color is blue (sky blue)." because it is included in the sentence; I think.

Or you can look in a book with parentheses.

Hey.

I think the full stop goes after the brackets (or parenthesis, but I've always known them as brackets...) but then again, I think it depends on what is inside the brackets. If it relates to the sentence beforehand, and isn't a completely seperate clause, then I'm pretty sure it'd be brackets then full stop.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though. wink

I'm not sure, in this case the correct phrase would be:

"My favorite color is sky blue."

But to answer your question, it is the first one.

"My favorite color is blue (sky blue)."

I ususally say, "My favorite color is blue (sky blue)." Some people believe it should be the other way around, but the first way is generally acceptable.

Why not just say:
My favorite color is sky blue.

It's inside in American English and outside in British English.

That works for quotes; I don't think it works for parentheses. I know MLA parenthetical citations place the period outside.
