My english teacher wanted the entire class to write a persuasive essay around a philosophical quote,

"He hath but seen half of the universe but he hath never been shown The House of Pain."
~Emerson

Does anyone here know how to break up or even understand it? Let alone write a persuasive essay on it???? sweatdrop

I'm pretty good at all types of essays, but wow, is she a sadist or something? twisted
Emerson is good for these quotes but, hard to do a whole lot with. Sorry, you may be on your own for this one. confused

Queen, Emerson is male. Unless you meant the teacher...

Basically, he's saying that a life experience is insufficient if you only ever experience the good things. You need to experience bad things as well to have a complete life experience.

:/

Good for a one or two page essay.

I have very little knowledge in literature, itself.

The only thing I have to say is that House of Pain is a very irksome band.
Otherwise, I'd just go with what Judas Iscariot had to say.
