This is a haiku by John Cooper Clark. And, it just happens to be one of the all time coolest haikus I've read.

to express your thoughts
in seventeen syllables
is very diffic .. ..

Wow... that's quite cool! It's really quite unique - I can't for the life of me do haikus (I don't think I've spelt that right, sorry) but this little poem has just made me feel a lot better about it. That's put me in a good mood now, thanks!! blaugh

That's why haiku isn't meant for English. In Asian languages, you can express so much more with fewer syllables.

Exactly. But I think Americans just wanted to try to adapt with this method of writing for some reason... maybe to see if they could actually come up with something worth reading in such a limited space for words.

I'm English and love English lessons, but when it comes to Haikus, I'm hopeless. Maybe us Western people were never really meant to have the gift of Haiku... I must admit, the people in Asia and the other countries in the East seem to be a lot better at it!! smile
