I have often been taunted about listening to "emo music" [FOB,P!ATD,MCR,a bit of AFI] and I don't really care. I personally like the "emo hairstyle". Obviously I don't cut myself or hate myself, but I like the style. I'm very outgoing, I play sports, yet it seems if I'm not Emo, I can't listen to their music. Does anyone else feel odd about this subject of having to be in on sort of "group" to listen or do the things they are listening to or doing?
Sorry if this doesn't belong in this forum ><

I have a really hard time figuring out why people say FOB and P!atd are emo. Not once does there music sound like cutting or hating themselves or their listeners. I can understand MCR and AFI, but FOB and P!atd? Normally, people say music is "emo" when they can't classify the genre, which I think is a compliment. If a band produces original music that no one can copy, then they've done a really good job. Anyway, FOB and P!atd aren't emo, and I like the emo style too, so it's okay to be different.

I blame the way they dress. And Pete's hair. This world is so fixated on looks these days, they look past whats really important. And maybe some of the lyrics contribute to it, some of them can be "angst-y" and emotionally. But, that doesn't make emo. Cutting =/= Emo.

I get more harassed about two of the members being gay than anything else.

emo isnt really a "bad" thing...i mean, its just a label (although i hate labels) they really dont mean anything unless you take it to heart...FOB may be labeled emo or scene or whatever you want to call it.... but to be emotive or popular isnt the worst thing on earth...i know i can relate to it...that all that matteres to me...labels mean nothing to me...i hope everyone can understand what im saying... heart

FOB is labeled emo because alot of their lyrics have inner meaning. "The Ribbon On My Wrist Says Do Not Open Before Christmas." or "I've Got A Sunset In My Veins."

I don't care much for genres. I listen to music I like. The end.
And I think it isn't all too great to label music, but even worse when people need to be classified. People are not books. We are not CDs. We are not movies. We do not need genres for people.

gah, ******** them. i have the same problem, i have an 'emo' hairstyle and wear 'emo' clothes, etc. and people taunt me about it too. but i'm proud of who i am so just ignore em, they don't know anything. and seriously, FOB is 'pop-punk' and P!ATD is alt. some of the lyrics themself may indicate an 'emo' style, but the way they set their songs up, the way they use the instruments, etc., does not make their music emo. smile
