Kanzenban?

Yes!

Okay, ahem. Yes, well. I was a moment ago on Wikipedia and I saw a new section on the Rurouni Kenshin page. I /know/ it wasn't there the last time I checked, which couldn't be more than two months ago. So, no one has made a thread on it, so I thought I would!

Wikipedia
"Starting in July of 2006, the Japanese publishers of Rurouni Kenshin released the long-awaited kanzenban edition. Each Rurouni Kenshin Kanzenban volume features a new cover, and there's also a color panel inside the book that is new art as well. The Rurouni Kenshin kanzenban is slated to run 22 volumes (as opposed to the original 28 Tankōbon each book will contain more chapters than the basic editions), with two coming out monthly. As a bonus,The Rurouni Kenshin kanzenban will include 'Yahiko no Sakabato', an extra story that ran in Shonen Jump and was never collected into a book."

Is that not awesome? That is so awesome. Admit it. It is.

Yes, it is great indeed. Immutable proof that RK is a classic in its time.

They're including YNS? I'm jealous. Tankoban owners had to settle for Meteor Strike, ugh.

Tankoban, eh? I haven't heard that name mentioned around Rurouni Kenshin, or any other series for that matter. Silly me. I thought that kanzenban was a special name for the series. Yami, dear fellow, you're very manga and anime savvy.

Heh heh, anyways, my good, somewhat new, trusty, should-never-be-used-as-a-legitimate-sources-for-instances-like-school friend Wikipedia now tells me that it's really good!

Wikipedia
Generally only the most popular manga (such as Dragon Ball) are released in this [(Kanzenban)] format.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tankōbon (If you want to read more.)

It's good that RuroKen is finally being recognized with that kind of honor. It does deserve it.

Unfortunately, I don't know when they're coming to the states. Probably in a few months. If I was like my sister who went to the mall everyweek (I have nothing against that) I'd be able to keep an eye out for it, but I don't. Spending money and I don't mix. I'm going to alert all my friends though.

Do you all think it would be obsessive if I wanted to buy both the tankoban /and/ the kanzenban? I do not want to become obsessed. That's unhealthy. But I really do want them both.

Yeah, seriously. I thought it was the name of the publisher at first or something.

The link to the Wikipedia article about it is in my last post, right above yours. Check it out. It's short, sweet, and simple.

Tankoban is the format in which most mangas are released in volume form after the chapters have been published in the weekly magazines such as Shonen Jump. Tankoban are always in black and white; the color pictures from the specials being converted to grayscale.

Kanzenban format is rather like the collector's edition treatment for classic comics. The volumes are larger and include more chapters per volume, hence the RK kanzenban being released in 22 volumes vs 28 for the tankoban. The pictures that were originally in color, stay in color.
