Do you think that email faces like ^-^, -_-", T-T, smile , sad , wink , etc. count as "txt talk"?
PostPosted: Wed Mar 21, 2007 4:40 pm

I don't think they do...I use them a lot (especially 'XD'). They're faces. They aren't 'abbreviations' for words. It's like...if you're mad, you don't always want to tell how you feel. You would want to show them.

Wait. Am I making sense @_@? (Tee hee. I used a face.)

I love using the facing! Half the people I chat with though don't know what they mean but I love to use them! Especially these: >.>; ^_^ o.o o.O; Those are my favorite ones smile !

I find they're very useful for conveying what I really mean. Sarcasm is much easier to detect when someone adds an ' xd ' on the end. Even substituting smiles for words is ok sometimes: how many times have you when speaking not finished your sentence and made a silly face instead?

But there is one time it counts as PAIN for the eyes. When someone does this, for example:

biggrin smile redface crying stare scream gonk blaugh 3nodding stressed sweatdrop heart heart heart domokun domokun mrgreen mrgreen dramallama dramallama cheese_whine cheese_whine ninja ninja rofl

Things like that just make me want to burning_eyes .

Quite. I prefer the more 'subtle' brand of sarcasm (unless using it for humourous effect), but I find that adding a letter emote at the end of a paragraph sums it up, and keeps my point from total obscurity. I even find myself doodling faces in the margins as I move down my paragraphs at school.

I think smilies are fine as long as they're not used excessively.

I love smileys! They're not a form of txt tlk exactly, since they're not really abbreviations for anything, just a way to convey emotions. blaugh

As long as there's no emoticon raping, why not? At least they're easily understandable.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 23, 2007 5:22 pm

Emoticons are used to express emotions. "txt tlk" is just a lazy way of spelling things- emoticons are not "txt tlk".

OHGODNO! I love those things!

O.o - is my favorite.

I probably over use XD, but it's still awesome. I have xd set in for my MSN XD

About the person who said they sometimes substitue words.

ALL THE TIME!

A well placed xd can substitute a whole sentance.
