do they ever replace the departed captains?

i was just wondering if they ever end up adding new captains since the three left? if so are they replaced by present characters or do they introduce new ones.

Huh, good question. It doesn't seems like they actually replace anyone or introduce anyone to take their places. Every time they have a gathering meeting, it's just the rest of the captains that are there. Anyone else may want to add to this?

It is kind of hard to replace captains when there is no one else with a Bankai there is however two people currently able to be Captains but one doesn't wish to have a Captain's position, as he prefers to work under Kenpachi, and the other is Renji and we all know what's up with him at the moment. But there are currently a few training to recieve their Bankai, what level they are currently at we don't know.

Soul society probably has to find eligible people for the captain position first. And we all know there aren't many of those.

They most likely promote vice captains. Apperently you can apply for the position.

Renji wanted Ikakku to apply for the positions of captain left after the whole soal society arc, because he has already achieved bankai.

Anyway........yah I was wondering the same thing. It seemed like they didn't really NEED to have those positions filled because nothing major was happening. It might be nice though. Hinamori probably doesn't want Aizen's position filled in case he...yah know decides to come back.
