The Hobbit has been the best of Tolkein's books i've read thus far...but then there is The Silmarilian and another that was just released, that i have not read...yet. The Silmarilian is a book that gives the story of middle earth before the rings were made.

I found the Hobbit so much easier to read than Fellowship, Two Towers, and Return of the King that are filled with so much detail that my mind explodes! I read it twice and always discover new details. I actually plan to read it again soon after I read Tolkien's new book (edited by his son) Childeren of Hurin.

xd Our teacher read us most of it in grade 6. Then we watched this lame cartoon movie version. The movie was awful. Pretty good book, though.

Yes, but those cartoons are so old. I heard they are going to make a live action version like they did with Fellowship, Two Towers, and Return of the King.

Yeah they want to but there's an issue over getting the liencing for production (which is the stupidest thing I have ever heard since why not give the guy who did LOTD the lience to produce The Hobbit?)
It was one of my favourite books. Two weeks after I read it my school told my parents I was dyslexic (which was total garbage because they were proved wrong by the specialist).

Schools are rarely right in those types of things, in my experience.
Yeah, pretty stupid, that. I'm hoping he gets the licence. I wouldn't want to see it if it were done by someone else.

My dad read it to me when I was five... I started re-reading it at one point, but got sidetracked. I need to get back into it.
I've read Fellowship, Two Towers, Return of the King, and the Silmarillion as well. The Silmarillion was the hardest read I've ever had, just because of the wording Tolkien uses... it's like wading through molasses. But the stories were good, once I could decipher the sentences.
The cartoon movie of The Hobbit made my eyes scream... it's an abomination. We watched it in Film Club because we had nothing better at the moment to watch. *shudder*

I like dragonflies Now I didn't like the hobbit... I don't know it was a little boring to me... Some people don't. I think the main difference between The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy is The Hobbit is a book he wrote before going to war and the LOTR trilogy was what he wrote after coming back. It holds a much darker and sinister tone because of what that did to him. Also some people agree he wrote the LOTR trilogy for big screen production (mainly due to all the indepth descriptions) whilst The Hobbit was a proper fairy tale.

Tokien's style of writing, but the differences are there, and they are interesting. Another reason behind the difference is that The Hobbit started out as a story that Tolkien told to his children, whereas The Lord of the Rings was written because The Hobbit turned out to be popular. He decided that he would continue (much to his publisher's delight I'm sure), but he also decided that he wanted to write for adults this time.
