Preparedness or Preparation?

	This may be a repeated topic, but "preparedness" sounds incorrect, but I'm not sure. Anyways, it absolutely annoys me when people say that. Correct me of I'm wrong about it, or agree that it is wrong(which it probably is).

	Personally I've never heard anyone use the word "preparedness" and it sounds about as grammatically correct as "funner". I'd go with "preparation". wink

	DarkElf27 Preparation is the act of getting prepared. Preparedness is the state of being prepared. I'm not sure "state" is the correct word. Rather, I would say that preparedness is a measure of how prepared you are (i.e., how much preparation you've done wink ). They are both correct and real words; it's just that "preparedness" is usually not preferred to similar words like "readiness" and... well, I can't think of any others. Perhaps it's just not a concept we end up addressing directly so often. I mean, are you going to ask, "How prepared are you?" or "What is your preparedness level?"
