I read one from the Anita Blake series. Blue Moon or something? I hated it. It may be because I didn't read any of the others, and that seemed to be a good way into the series, but the plot and characters just didn't appeal to me. For one thing, random, gratuitous sex just doesn't make sense. And there was a lot of it in that book. The characters weren't all that interesting, either, which didn't redeem the book in my eyes at all. Through much of the book, they seemed a bit... bland.

I tried reading one of Hamilton's other books, some stand-alone book whose title I can't remember, and I don't think I even finished half of it before giving up. The characters in that weren't great, either, and the plot was a bit cliche, from what I can remember of it and from what I got through. I know there are a lot of people who like Laurell K. Hamilton's books, but from those two books, I really can't see why.

I used to enjoy the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton--until the books started going from good gothic fantasy to bad hardcore porn. domokun

My sister loves those books, but they haven't really appealed to me. I haven't read them, and I don't particularly want to. I heard they were cliche vampire novels full of casual sex. Doesn't sound like my kind of book.

i liked the first few but as the books went on I became bored. it was too repetitive.

LKH is only a worthy read from Guilty Pleasures to Obsidian Butterfly

Wait 'til you're passed Obsidian Butterfly. LKH turns into an awful writer of no talent, sorta like Anne Rice

If you want to read a terrific series of novels about a vampire slayer, check out Sunglasses After Dark, In the Blood, and Paint It Black by Nancy Collins, which feature her anti-heroine, Sonya Blue. For those who are fans of the World of Darkness, she also wrote an independent novel featuring her heroine battling vampires of the Camarilla, entitled A Dozen Black Roses.
Two opposable thumbs up!

I read the first Anita and it was all right, but I didn't enjoy it enough to read the rest. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series is much more my style, for it has noblemen and faeries! If you aren't into reading sex, though, don't pick it up.

I've read 1-3, and am soon to read the 4th.
Pretty good. The first one I was iffy about, the second one I really liked, the 3rd was in between those two.

I started reading the Anita series from the beginning. It started out that Anita was kicking butt and taking names. The sexual encounters she had were far out-weighed by the plot line. Then something changed. I don't know what's been going on in Hamilton's head, but now her plot line seems to be overrun by gratuitous sex scenes. I read Danse Macabre and got so annoyed that all Anita did was have sex with various people. The plot became secondary, maybe even third, to the sex. I gave up on Hamilton and have moved on to better authors.
