You know that Cingular commercial that has that girl talking to her mother about texting?
I always warn my sister, "Never use chatspeak, or that might happen to you!" And she always gives me this weird look.
x.x
Have you seen it?
What are your reactions?

UGH it's so obnoxious! Those aren't even actual acronyms or whatever you want to call them! The "That's what's INBGD" ((er.. that's probably not it, but I can't remember)) thing really annoys me.

Daughter: TISUF (or something) Mom: Look at this bill! That's what's tinsgf!

I believe in Jesus Christ, my Savior. If you do too, and aren't scared to admit it, then copy and paste this into your signature. Thankfully, I don't watch much TV, so I haven't seen it. What really bothers me is cell providers encourage people to use text talk. I don't see why, since text messages charge per message, not per character in the message.

I see what you mean. Text messages normally aren't that long, and the amount of money it takes to send a text message is probably more than a few words.
And besides, I've never texted in my life. My parents would eat my brains if I did...

I text really slow (I'm out of practice), and the few times I do text it's with my sisters, either trying to just contact them or when bored and in their dorm/apartment.

Texting bugs me, both because it's slow and unreadable. The commercial gets me because the mom doesn't know what the txt tlk letters are, but she knows exactly what the girl is saying.

I've watched the commercial, and it really annoys me to hear "txt tlk" actually spoken. I have to deal with it everyday though, because kids at my school go around talking like that. Instead of laughing they "lol" and when they go somewhere they literally say "brb". stare

Well, I don't have a cell phone, but my parents do. When they know the other's in a meeting (via warning email not to call) often they text each other to keep the noise to a minimum if it's REALLY important. But when they do, they use short sentences instead of chatspeek. And they don't do it at all unless it's urgent (Order the pizza, please?) and can't wait.
But still... I know this is the grammar guild and all, but a smilie speaks a thousand words, and every time I see that commercial you can capture my emotions with a single nifty message board face:
scream

The scary thing is I've seen the commercial so much I memorized it... Daughter is blue. Mother is red.
"Becky!" "Wu?" "Your phone bill, that's what's up. What's with all this texting?" "Omg, Inbd." "It is a big deal. Who can you be texting 50 times a day?" "Idk. My bff Jill?" "Tell your bff Jill I'm taking away your phone." "Tisnf!" "Me paying this bill, that's whats sn...f!"
