Prickly Pear Cactus Pincushion
Supplies:
Worsted weight yarn, your choice of colors. I recommend, green for the cacti and bud, yellow or purple for the flower, and dark red or orange for the pot.
F-hook (3.75mm)
Yarn needle
Stuffing of your choice
Stitch marker (optional)
Cardboard circle (aprox. 2 &3/4 inch in diameter) (optional)
Rocks or marbles (recommended)

ch = chain sc = single crochet
sl = slip st = stitch
Rnd = round sc2tog = single crochet two together
dc = double crochet
Cactus and Dirt
Rnd 1: Ch 2, work 6 into 2nd chain from hook. (6 )
Rnd 2: 2 sc into each st in round. (12 )
Rnd 3: *2 sc into 1st st, sc in next st* repeat from * to* 6 times. (18 )
Rnd 4: *2 sc into 1st st, sc in next 2 st* repeat from * to* 6 times. (24 )

Fasten off, leaving a very long tail to sew up through center of cactus. Moderately stuff cactus, keep in mind that you want it to be able to stay semi-flat. Sew tail of yarn back and forth through center of cactus to help it stay in the semi-flat state of a Prickly Pear.
2nd Cactus
Rnd 1: Ch 2, work 6 into 2nd chain from hook. (6 )

Bud
Ch 4, join ends with a sl st to make a ring.

Fasten off, leaving long tail. Weave tail to base of bud to use in attaching to cactus later. Sew flower to open end of bud. Sew bud and flower to cactus.
Pot

Bind off; leave about 12 to 13 inches of string for sewing the dirt & cactus to the pot. About 4 rows down fold over the edge of the pot al the way around, to create the rim. Sew cactus to pot in the 6th row from rim, once you get down to about 1 to 2 inches left to sew, stuff your pot with your choice of filling and rocks/marbles (if you chose to add them) remember to stuff the pot firmly for stability. Once finished sewing push the rim up so that it's not just a flat bit of fabric against the side of the pot.
