well jacob didn't kill her on the inside, he let bella do things like ride a motorcyle, something edward would never let her do, and everytime jacob breaks a promise he says he's sorry, i can't recall edward every doing that

EDWARD EDWARD EDWARD! I don't think Jacob could truelly and really ever be her best friend. Even if Edward (god forbid) "killed" himself, I don't think they would be good friends. Jacob's whole werewolf thing would get in the way and he possibly could hurt her more then Edward.

Edward never broke a promise did he?? He said that he would never leave unless it was good for her. Which it really wasn't but he didn't know that.

he promised he would explain how he saved her form tylers van, and when bella first asked edward to stay he just said yes with no conditions, then he said he'd stay as long as it made her happy, and finally he said as long as it was good for her.
