Once upon a time there were three sisters
Two girls and their silver-furred dog
It was pure beauty, the trio.
Beauty doesn’t last.
The Dog’s name was Daisy
Eyes always full of life
But no story
really has a happy ending
The two sisters left one day
“Give Daisy a kiss
This may be the last day you see her”
I wish I had heeded the warning
When they returned, the house was quiet.
No barking was heard.
“Where’s Daisy?” I asked.
Our mother’s reply was hesitant
“She played in the creek for a long time…
Then she went to sleep”
Daisy had liver problems.
But I never let go of her spirit
When her body rotted away
The Trio still lasts
