The goddess of wind was a gentle being, loved by nature and man alike. She often came down to the earth to sing for her companions, (like tigers, wolves, and fish), who couldn't reach the clouds where she lived with her escorts, dragons and birds. Her short golden hair made her jade eyes all the more joyful and radiant, sparkiling like the sunset as she sang. She always came at dusk, no matter the weather. She always sat in the same place too, at the very edge of a steep cliff. She loved the freedom. I loved her.
The first time I saw her started out as the saddest day in my life, but ended up being the best. I was wandering the beach, miserable because my girlfriend had dumped me AND I found out I was adopted, when I heard a heavenly sound. Now of course at the time I didn't belive in angels, but I thought twice when I saw her. She was, quite literally, perfect. She was slim and well fitted. Cute, too. Her hair floated like a halo, and the birds sang as they fluttered around their songmate; wolves and tigers and all other creatures sat to hear her; even the fish came up to listen! I waisted no time in pulling out my sketch book to draw that perfect figure on the cliff. Lord only knew if she would fall off before I finished.
"Sir! Sir?"
I looked up from the paper.
"Sir, may I ask what you are drawing?" The young girl called as she waved her hand. All the animals started to disperse once they realized that she had stopped singing. Her face held the sweetest smile, so warm it melted MY cold heart in a breath.
I raised the image. "You," I smiled.
"Wow..." she sighed, suddenly standing before me. I blushed slightly as she bent to examine my drawing. Nobody really appreciated my work, so a change of pace felt good.
"It's amazing. My sister would be so embarrassed to be downsized in art by a mortal. I mean, it is her passion and life's work."
"Really? What does she do for a living?" And then it clicked. Mortal. She called me a mortal.
"Look around you." She gestured to the forest. "She created the trees, the rocks, the very earth you're sitting on." She winked. "She created everything you've drawn in still life."
"So you're-"
"An elemental. Supposedly extinct, the creators and caretakers of life and being. I, in particular, am the Air Elemental. And I have been watching over you since the day of your birth." She grinned as she continued. "You have the qualities of a Wind Elemetal."
"I-uh- Wait, just what are you impliying?"
"Nothing," she giggled. "Except that you would make an excelent life companion."
I was speechless. What was I suppossed to do? I looked back up and was met by her sweet lips upon my own. The first thing I thought of was strawberries. I swear she tasted just like one.
"Come back each day at dusk for three years," she held up her slim fingers. "And on the third anniversary of our meet today give me your answer."
It's been three years and now at eighteen, I am ready to give her my answer.
"Hello, Mr. Artist."
I turned to the sound and captured the Elemental in my arms, bringing her into a light kiss.
"I want to go with you."
"Fine, but you need to trust me." She sounded strange.
"Are you alright?"
"No, a dragon was killed today. The death of a guardian takes a toll on my soul. Now follow my instructions."
I nodded.
"Take my hand,-"
I clutched her hand.
"-and jump."
"What?!"
"I said jump."
"That's suicide!"
She rolled her eyes and laughed, "Just trust me, ok?"
"Ok."
"Now jump!"
She and I leapt together, falling stories, when suddenly I realized we were floating. I never hit the ground.
'Wow...'
