Work Experience Week - 9/7/07 to 13/7/07
@ ABC Technology and Development, Level 11, ABC Building B, Ultimo
(How utterly detailed xD)
Monday
- Introduced to people, shown my reserved "workstation"
- Updated mobile phone numbers and employees positions spreadsheet for Cath Burgess, checked numbers, position and whether they were on the list
- Catalogued DOEs for Clare Aroney - Heaps of CDs and DVDs though
- Sorted out more recent (from mid 2005) DOEs and put in the CD/DVD Storage
- Got my Temporary Pass! <3
Monday was okay, mostly admin stuff though, but seriously, I cant complain... -_-;; And I shook hands with people and was nervous and stuff... sigh... Went down to the Staff Canteen at 12:00 (early lunch) and bought a tasteless potato pie... vowed I would bring lunch... (not that I did... >.> wink
Tuesday
- Kylie Baulman (Administrative Assistant for my dad and Sue Simpson (employer)- Manager for particular IT section) - was there, so took photos for the phone list and updated the list on the Intranet in Dreamweaver, I did most of the work though... "I havent done this is ages..." ... basically most of the photoshopping and html work... couldnt help noticing the pictures I took were heaps clearer than hers though xD
- Went and helped Clare again ... we went to Simone Ainsworth and she showed me the intranet and explained to me about it, then we made a page for Clare's Desktop team (that's "helping" yeah) and basically it contained the spreadsheet I wrote up on Monday...
- Went and got introduced to Francis Lo (With Lylie) and he gave us an impressive lecture about the inner workings of the RCS (wont explain that -_- not bothered), which I kinda fell asleep in, not that anyone noticed...
- Tried to do the RCS survey which I was assigned to do, but seriously, how do I know enough to make the survey, Im not a permanent employee... >.> Ended up doing name plates =)
Overall was okay, better than Monday.. T___T Felt like skipping out on Tuesday...
Lunch I headed (ran) over to Market City ^_^
Wednesday
- Craig Preston was back - was meant to take me on Tuesday, was sick -_- - I went and had a talk with the Innovation Department, and they showed me the online site and Internet Architecture and Graphic Design and Flash as well as TV games which can be played if you watch rollercoaster and have Foxtel. Fun <3
- Went down to Radio National (565 AM Radio or something) and met John Diamond. He gave me a tour of the Studios... met Craig's wife who worked at RN (Linda Preston, he used to work there before as well, switched over to Innovation)
- At two, we listened to a recording of a show (while it was being recorded >.> xD) and then afterwards went upstairs to the other part of RN and listened to an old Radio show they were digitising "Just a Minute" where people had one minute to speak on a subject without "hesitation, deviation, or repetition" ... and you have to speak on the most bizarre subjects... was HILARIOUS <3
- Went down to ABC Shop, apparently something there.... but nothing after all.... noone came T__T
- Went back upstairs and continued name plates
Best day yet <3 - I love Just a Minute... wish I could have a copy... T__T Such a cool, 60-year old show <3 (lol, on a record player, what do you think... -_-) So cool.... T___T
Had Maccas for lunch xD
Thursday
- Went to RN in the morning, looked at live radio show for a while and thenwent back for the recordings...
- JD (John Diamond) did editing and stuff, and I fell asleep, then we went up to Triple J which was undergoing renovations... had a chat...
- Fiddled with studd... (he did), listened to a tinny bit of Just a Minute (felt negelected T__T)
- Went up to IT at 11:15AM and went to fins Sue Covre. She took me to go watch the Midday Report and we sat in the sound ... studio? We watched all the little screens (with DEL1, DEL2 etc (stands for delegation)) and he showed us mainly how it worked... I got to sit in the actual studio beforehand in the presenter's chair and got a camera pointed at my face... T___T;
- Went to lunch with dad for the first time that week
- Talked to the Inet team in charge of internet applications and made a logo for them (not sure they really like to be honest xP)
- Talked to.. David Soutar? (from Production and Development) for a whole hour... T__T, <- yeah really, my eyes were watering the whole time, I think he was sitting too close to me... Almost had tears streming down my face... T___T
Fairly okay, but I got pretty sleepy... went with dad for lunch and had vietnamese stuffs...
Oh yeah, on Wednesday I scouted out Mel's Dad's workplace and hung around staring in the Windows for Mel.... didnt see her, but her dad's place is wayyy closer that you might think... O_o;
We went and bought choc that night to give to everyone who taught me stuffs
Friday
- Nothing much to do.... really... but worked on name plates in morning...
- Got called upstairs to Business and sorted through the files, sorting out the CLOSED, REL and NO EXISTING FILE ones (last one is funny xD) and then typed to CLOSED ones up and they were to be filed away in folders and boxes....
- Returned to work with name cards.... -_-; Finished them and they were three short... -_-;
- Went around and handed out chocolate... almost got half the box returned to me by Kylie xD, Sue S gave me one too... and my dad got one xD
- Browsed the net for the Chaser's War on Everything Stuff (Like the CNNNN site, the Chaser new thing site and the Chaser political thing site (cant remember anymore)) and did their funny polls and complaint forms and stuff xD
- Mucked around, said goodbyes and left...
Final day - cant say I was tooo sad, but sad nonetheless... -_-;; <- sad? xD;
We didnt return my temporary pass though, because my dad told me to return when the got off work cos I would go back and we would go home together.... but when he/we left at 6:30PM, the door was locked and they were gone xD (at Security! O_o wink so it's with dad right now... xD
We bought buns in the morning, so I had two of 'em for lunch.... but I was starving afterwards... bought another xD...
My dad went to a funeral at 1 (which is why he is Acting Head of IT for two weeks as the Head, Tony Silva, is on leave... cos his dad died) and came back at 3...
Craig P was gonna ask for me to do the ABC Shop Online thing or something again, but maybe he forgot, nevermind... my dad offered to show me the IT Helpdesk, but I couldnt be bothered anymore.... >.>;
That's all for this week's work experience (or the ONLY work experience... oh wait, I never actualy got the form signed by the school, but meh, I didnt get injured or anything and HGHS doesnt really care about WE anyways... -_-;
