Fear
I'm sure that you've all heard the saying: If you learn more about it then you won't be afraid of it. That is bull crap!
I'm sure it works about somethings like say... Oh heights. I'm sure that if you're taken up 100 feet and are forced to look down, oh sure! You'll be fine with heights! You know after you faint and someone has to haul you backwards so you don't plummet to a painful and flattening death. Seeing as that's the only way I can think of to be not afraid of heights anymore. But wait, there's more. After you regain consciousness you realize: you hate heights even more! Because by trying to learn about them, it just made things oddles and oddles worse!
I suppose a better example of how this theory applies to at least me is how I tried to conquer my childhood fear. Bugs (Something I'm none too proud of). So my dear mother forced nature books upon my small three year old mind about many, many creepy crawlies. You know what that did? It made it worse! And to make things even worse- we went to the Butterfly Pen...thing at the Wild Animal Park and or San Diego Zoo. Oh the horrors that my childhood mind endured that day. Like that fact that some types of Butterflies suck blood for nuriousment- Necter eaters my a**!
So I pose this question: Does that crap of 'parental guidance' actually help at any time?
