I am writing to you about the upcoming votes and how only fifty-one percent of the eligible people in the United States are voting. It is a very interesting fact that when voting time comes around, forty-nine percent of the eligible people in the United States do not even bother to take the time to vote. I believe that there must be a way to increase the need to vote among the younger groups of The United States. I am a senior at Montgomery High School, a public High School in Santa Rosa Ca. As a senior I have many things to look forward to when I turn eighteen. Unfortunately I turn eighteen five days after this years election, but in many ways I shall still be participating, in the sense that I will be listening and rooting for the right people to be elected. Many people who turn eighteen do not really care about what is occurring in the United States, and when it comes time for any type of election or vote the young adults of America decide that it is a waste of time because their vote wont make a difference. I guess the reaction of young adults is due to their lack of understanding that if they are not voting, then the only people left voting are people who do not see things in the light of the new world. By not voting, our pathway through life is being paved by an older race that sees our way of life as something to fear. I believe that the young people will become more interested in the idea of voting if what they were voting for was presented in a way that affected them. I have seen some of the voting samples that are mailed out to people so that they may become aware of what they are voting for and its good and bad points that they should know about. But as I reviewed these pre-ballets, I noticed that most of the subjects being discussed required a dictionary or a mind that has been kept up in business wording and phrasing. I myself had trouble understanding what some of the words, used to describe the actions being taken, were even saying. And I would add that after looking it all up and figuring it out, I was ready to give up as well. I am a good student and I am well known to understand many difficult words, phrases, and even languages in which things are being said. Even though I used a dictionary, I still had to ask many other people, who are much older than I am, what it was about, and even they did not understand half of it. I believe that if the ballets were made in mind of those who are not constantly reading a newspaper or even keeping up with the news, that more people would want to vote, because if you can understand what is going on then you can state your opinion. I believe this will help with some of the voting issues. I also know that many schools try to make games out of political and news worthy subjects, but in my case these actions do not interest me. I believe that the subject being voted on should have an example that appeals to the people. This would encourage many of the younger voters to fight for something they really care for and want to change or improve upon our existing circumstances. I believe that if this happens more people will vote, including the older generation, who have also expressed exasperation with the current confusing format, and the necessity to use difficult to understand explanations. If you have not noticed, more people vote when they are presented with an issue that affects them on a personal level. By doing these things, maybe, just maybe you can help pave the pathway that leads to a better future. I hope my thoughts have helped in some way, and I would really appreciate any information you can give me about what you are doing to increase the amount of people voting. Remember that our life is controlled by the actions of the people and that without the people we are nothing. But even worse is the fact that without you, the voice of the people, we the people would just be dust in the wind.
Sincerely, whee 3nodding
