chapter 1 continued
“So? Maybe she is here to stop that dragon from doing what ever it is it came here to do.” Hotaru couldn’t help but laugh. “You serious? Since when would spirit wolves care to get into our business? Unless…” She stopped and Kotoro looked at her. “Unless what milady?” She shook her head. “Never mind.” She continued to watch the dragon as he wrecked havoc on the forest. Kotoro continued to look at her for 5 minutes then looked away. Suddenly the dragon looked at Rei and suddenly quieted down. “Natasha? Is that you?” Rei looked up at the spirit dragon and howled. I do not know of this Natasha that you speak of! Who is she? “You must be her! You…you have to be!” The dragon roared and lightning flashed. I am not. You are simply wallowing in your own self-pity at the fact that you lost your loved one! Rei shouted. Even though she could only use thought-speech, everybody heard their conversation and was free to join in. “You have to be.” His form started to change and Rei took a step back. He roared once and the change was complete. Where the dragon once was, there was standing a demonic human. Gasps were heard everywhere as he walked to the spirit wolf. His hair was blonde, his eyes were blue and he was wearing a black jacket with a white shirt underneath. He was also wearing black pants that had no pockets. “Don’t deny it any longer. I can tell that you are Natasha no matter how many times you deny it.” But yet she does not believe. Her mind is clouded with much grief and strife. Show her your power and I am sure that she will remember! You are wrong! Natasha wouldn’t appreciate it! In fact it might scare her farther into the cloud of which you speak of Master. I cannot do that. YOU CAN AND WILL! The master shouted and the guy grabbed his head. “Please. You don’t know what it’s like to have this…thing controlling your every action, your every move, even your every thought.” His eyes started to glow and the sky started to grow black. Suddenly a flash of lightening struck the ground and everybody jumped backwards. Are you saying that there is something controlling what you are doing? If so then you should have the power to control whatever it is! If not then I cannot believe that you are being controlled! Rei said vehemently, knowing she was right. Hotaru had caught a word of the talk that was going on between the guy/dragon and the spirit wolf. She felt lucky to be witnessing this yet unlucky that a dragon had to be the corresponding party. “Lady Hotaru. Damascus is awake and awaiting you. He says that it is important for you to come right away.” “And I could care why? I am just a lowly… Never mind. Did he say why?” “No. Just that you need to come so he can explain something. You know his daughter right?” “The princess? Yes I know of her. Who in this Covenant doesn’t?” “I do not.” Kotoro said with a frown/smile. “Who was she?” “Who was she?” Hotaru repeated with a chuckle. “She was the best Lycan slayer there was. Until she did the unthinkable and fell in love with a…stranger.” “Ah. Sounds like the kind of person I would have fallen in love with.” Kotoro smiled. “What happened to her?” “Her father…I do not know how to put this. If Damascus wants you to know his business then he would have told you.” “Sorry Milady. I guess my curiosity got the better of me. It shall not do so again.” Kotoro bowed his head in then sighed. “Shall I tell the Elder that you will come in your own time?” “Yes. Much to his displeasure. I shall come when I am ready to face the Elder of these matters. Thank you Death Dealer. Your assistance shall not go unrewarded.” “Thank you Lady Hotaru. For taking the time to hear these requests.” Kotoro knew that the conversation was over the minute she went back to formalities. He looked back to the demonic dragon/human and the spirit wolf and sighed. We are blessed but Hotaru doesn’t seem to get that. Then again she was never brought up the way we pure-bloods were. She does not know of our religious beliefs. She never will because of the fact that Damascus’s daughter held the only key to turning people into pureblood vampires. Now that she is gone the vampires are a doomed race. No longer meant to survive. Kotoro thought as he left the scene. Then he chuckled and turned around. That’s when he noticed that the dragon in his human form looked familiar. It can’t be. He died! I know of this because I killed him personally! On orders his body was to be burned. Did the Elders decide not to fulfill the order that they themselves have given? I guess it is not of my concern. The Elders do what they want and not bother to keep us, their loyal servants informed. Kotoro sighed and walked into the mansion where Damascus was waiting. “Well?” “No dice sir. She said she’ll talk to you when she’s ready.” “You didn’t tell her of the coffin?” “No. She looked more interested in the argument of the demonic dragon and the spirit wolf.” At the mention of a spirit wolf, Damascus’s did a half smile, half frown. “A spirit wolf you say?” “Yes. Does this have anything to do with Sokora?” “No. Spirit wolfs are common these days. Sokora has nothing to do with this I am sure of it.” “Sir?” Kotoro looked confused. “What?” “Would you like me to go back and convince Lady Hotaru of the…urgency?” “No. She will come when she needs to. Let’s go.” Damascus walked to the back of the mansion and said a command word. A portal appeared and he walked through it. Kotoro followed and soon found himself in a warehouse. Damascus was nowhere to be seen.
Meanwhile… Hotaru sighed as the argument continued. “Okay guys enough. This is no way to fight!” She finally intervened only to find the demonic dragon looking at her. “And what makes you think you have the authorization to stop this half-breed? You have no power and never will. Your Elders have you on a leash. And surely you follow your Master’s wishes?” “I may be a half-breed, but I hold power that some pure-bloods will never have!” Hotaru spat back, getting pissed off at Adrien for his arrogance. “And you think that gives you the authority to stop this?” Adrien roared and a bunch of decrepit zombies rose from the ground and surrounded them. Rei quickly assessed the situation and ran back into the forest. As soon as she was out of sight she barked a command word and suddenly transformed into the human that had welcomed her when Rei was wounded. She ran back to the scene and said a holy word and all the zombies returned to their graves. “Ah. Let me guess. A priest has heard of my demonic presence and has sent his little apprentice to her doom. This shall be fun.” Adrien mocked, laughing. “He shall be sadly disappointed.” “I am no apprentice.” Rei said quickly casting another spell that stopped any destruction from happening. “If I had one, he would be dead already.” Hotaru looked at the spirit. “Rogue priest? Never heard of one. And we Vampire’s pride ourselves on our knowledge of the Priests. There is no Priests to have a rogue apprentice.” She smirked glad to finally piss someone off. “I wouldn’t go there if I were you. I at least know my place. As a Lady of the Covenant, you should know better.” Rei spat back and shone her staff at Hotaru’s direction. Hotaru spotted this and jumped out of the way in the nick of time. “You dare shine that decrepit thing in my direction? You shall pay dearly for your crimes!” Hotaru said and took out her sword in one fluid motion. She jumped and attempted to slice Rei in half. Rei spotting this turned herself into mist and quickly materialized where Hotaru used to be. “Tsk. Tsk. You shouldn’t allow me to get you angry. My foe is not you but the demonic dragon that is currently in human form.” Hotaru turned around and looked at the spirit. “In the end we all have the same enemies.” She conceded, not happy with the circumstances. “MY QUARREL IS WITH BOTH YOU AND THE VAMPIRES!” Adrien shouted, pissed off because his enemies were uniting. “I WILL BE BACK! BUT I WARN YOU NOW! I WILL BE MORE POWERFUL!” With that he disappeared and left the spirit and Hotaru standing there. “Great. Now what?” Hotaru asked out loud. She looked around and noticed that Rei had turned back into a spirit wolf and had run off.
Meanwhile back at the Warehouse…
Kotoro had finally found Damascus who was standing in a circle of his own blood. Damascus’s normally black hair was matted in blood and thorns had sprouted from his body. “Sir?” Kotoro asked, worried about his Elder. “Help me bring her back. The time has come for her to come back.” He groaned as his power reached full output. He lashed out and grabbed onto Kotoro’s hand. He then slashed at his wrist and soon Kotoro found himself in the same state as Damascus. Suddenly he realized that they were doing a spell that would free Damascus’s daughter from her spiritual prison and bring her back to the world with no memories of who she really was.
Back in the forest
Rei had stopped running and looked back towards the Mansion when suddenly a black mist rose from the ground and encircled her. She could hear the command words being spoken and had a terrible feeling about what was going to happen. Her old form was being given back to her. She would soon walk amongst the flesh that had disapproved of her and her…unmistaken love for a demon that shouldn’t have arrived in the small town of Catonsville. “Skilar, crictor, dunshra!” Kotoro had started the spell and Damascus finished it by saying the English translation “By the power of the blood we envoke thee.” “Freda, koru, durra!” “To free that which we have bound.” “Hotra, balas, nickta!” “And invoke the power we rid thee!” The spell erupted in a flash of sparks and sped off to find the one that had been bound to a form that was not their own. It located the unfortunate soul and connected with a crack that resounded off the whole forest. A black mist overtook Rei and she started to transform. Every bone of her body started to grow. The tail had melted and the fur started to retract. Her feet started to extend to a human length. Her snout and ears also retracted coming to a stop when they had reached the norm for humans. The whole process took over five minutes and soon Rei was back to normal. Well…normal for a Vampire. She stood up and noticed that she wasn’t naked but was wearing a Death Dealer’s outfit. “That’s strange. Why am I in these clothes? Was this my old position before the mishap?” She said, using her voice for the first time since the year 2010. She walked out of the forest and back to the vampire mansion. As soon as she got within viewing range, she noticed that nobody was there. That’s odd. I guess they all went into town.
