Name: Horowai
Meaning: Waterfall
Personality: Like her name, Horowai is often a torrent of emotion, which is quite often hard to deal with, especially by those who don't know her very well. One moment she'll be as placid as a flowing stream and then suddenly she'll erupt into a fit of rage or sorrow so uncontrollable that she's best left alone until she calms. Her moods swing to and fro, making her predictable and almost impossible to get on with. Quite often she'll speak without thinking of snap without meaning too. For the most part Horowai is all talk, always going on about how she's going to do something to prove herself, how she's going to show everyone what she's made of. Luckily, for the most part, words never make it to action. But Horowai isn't a bad lioness, in fact she's very kindhearted and always tries to do the best thing. It's her spontaneous and laid back attitude that often lands her in trouble, as she'll often go ahead and do things without thinking or asking permission. Her lack of good judgement also poses problems and on those rare occasions where she does do something wrong, she often doesn't realise it until it's spelled out to her. Some might say its her way of breaking away from her sister, others might say she's just a little cuckoo. In reality, this 'drama queen' behaviour is just to get a little attention.

Entry:
Why had she done such a thing? It had seemed so right at the time! So perfect! Now, now she realised what a horrible mistake she had made. But she had realised it too late, far too late and now she was paying for it dearly. She was shamed.

She stepped into the clearing, one of the few places in the jungle where the trees did not grow, with her head hung low. She remembered being a cub and coming here, wondering if the females of the past had torn them up with their claws to make room for their companions. Her imaginative stories had been laughed at then and soon the laughing stopped and she was ignored altogether. It was that lack of acknowledgment that got to Horowai. She couldn't bear it! She was just a drop of rain in a downpour, a flea on the back of a hyena. She might as well have been invisible. Even her outbursts, which had worked at first, were ignored and if anything they had chased her remaining friends away. Even before now, her fellow lionesses had preferred to walk in another direction if they saw her coming. Now, they blanked her completely.

She would have cried but she couldn't, what was the point? Tears would only make her more shameful in their eyes.

They probably expect me to worm my way out of punishment, she thought bitterly, hoping that her sister wasn't here to witness what she proposed to do. She had thought about her punishment all night long and finally she felt ready to meet her toh. A light smile touched her maw at the thought of her punishment. They probably expect me to go and stay with those wretched males, she continued, won't they be surprised when they find out what I really am going to do. Yes, Horowai had considered that option. Living amongst the low-life males was the obvious choice but one that Horowai wasn't prepared to take. She had realised that actually spending time with the males and gaining their attention wouldn't be a punishment at all. In fact, in a way, it might be considered a reward. Horowai had never mated, not once. She hadn't even cast an eye at the males, but surely they would take notice of her. She was beautiful, young and one who loved to play the 'hard to get' game. Yes, they'd pay her attention alright and that certainly wouldn't do! Not this time.

This time she really had dishonoured herself. This wasn't just a little mischief that had the clan tutting and shaking their heads. She'd fought in a clan war, something that was forbidden. Her punishment had to reflect that, else no one would take her seriously. Besides, this time she wanted to change herself, she wanted to snap herself from her deluded little world. She wasn't anybody now and she never would be.

She came to a halt, aware now that she was being watched. She didn't raise her head as she heard whispered words, in fact she acted as if there was no one there. Her forepaws came to rest on a tree that had capsized. It lay before her like an injured preybeast, lifeless and sopping from the last downpour. It wasn't going to be the last rain for the day either, by the feel of the air.

Horowai set her forepaws on the log and unsheathed her claws, locking them in tightly in the grooves of the bark.

She hadn't meant to cause trouble, not really. She just wanted to become one of those lionesses she had heard in the legend. She wanted to fight, become stronger for it. Then maybe others would take notice of her and she wouldn't be forced to attract negative attention. Maybe for once someone would look at her and think; wow she certainly did turn out well, her mother must be proud! But no, the only way she could regain any respect was to choose a punishment

entered the clearing but did not raise her head, watching her paws as they stepped She dared not look up at the faces of her clan for fear of what she would see in their eyes. Were they angry or were they just dissapointed? They knew what she was like, they had always known. She was spontaneous, desperate to show everyone how wonderful she was. Desperate to show everyone that even though she was just a Gasht that she was someone special.
