I hate my roommates.
Mark is allergic to Louis's, get this, snake. And Louis is allergic to Mark's cologne. And I, who is allergic to neither, and don't see how someone can be allergic to snakes, is here, sleeping in the middle of the room, because someone had to stay as far from the other as possible. Is it just me, or am I getting played for a fool?
I stared at the ceiling, not being able to sleep because Mark put on way too much of that disgusting cologne and Louis' snake had to have that damned heat lamp on by my head. I hate the heat. It was three in the morning, and I hadn't slept at all. I looked right, I looked left, both sound asleep with a smug smile on their faces.
I hate them.
I got up and decided to go outside. I tend to sleep in the clothes I wore that day. Which makes many people wonder if I ever change my clothes. which I do, just not until I start to notice I smell bad. why should I change my clothes? Its not like I am planning to impress anyone.
I slid on some ballet flats I had under my bed and went outside. Flats are the best thing to wear when being a sneaky little ninja. Oh yes, I'm a ninja. I am one with the shadows and the wind. Oh yeah, I rock. I slid down the hallway and past the security cat, yes, cat. The head master person is allergic to dogs and apparently cats are "deadly" when they sense intruders. Psh, if that cat is deadly then I am Miss America.
Getting outside, feeling the cool air rush to my flush face and cool my temperature was the thing I needed most at the moment. I went over to the willow tree behind the rose garden and sat down, my back to the bark and oh Gosh. . . This had to be Heaven. The stars and moon were bright, the wind was light and gentle, the air was fresh, much fresher than Nevada air where you could practically taste the dirt. That is, unless it was Midnight and you had a sprinkler system that worked, then you were okay. But here, in this place, it was Heaven. I shut my eyes for about five minutes before I heard something next to me. I kept my eyes closed, waiting.
"Cass, right?" I looked up to see the intruder to see Louis. His voice was smooth and a little gruff, but it was fine. He himself was...well...I didn't say "Black Beauty" for nothing before. He was beautiful. ((I suck at descriptions, so when I find the picture I had taken of him I will show you. and just so you know, I am writing this all down in my journal. I am planning on re-writing it someday with the pictures included so that you can all know what I am talking about. And so I know I left something in this world.))
"Yeah, why are you here?" I was tired and tried to sound pleasent, but it sounded like a harsh whisper. He smirked and sat next to me. If I was more awake I would kick his arse. . .
"Why are you out here?" He asked. I didn't answer. I wanted to sleep but you and the other jackass made that impossible seemed a little mean and I didn't want my little quiet time to be ruined so I just stayed silent. I leaned against the tree and looked up.
"You know. . . if you want, I can tell you a bed time story. . ." I tilted my head and looked at him like he was insane. A bed time story?
"No thanks, how about I tell you one?" He smiled at hearing my voice and nodded. I sighed and looked up, seeing a firefly up above us and smiled. I knew a good story to tell.
"There was once a girl, about five, golden locks, green eyes, very cute. she went out into the forest all the time, telling her mother that she would find a fairy. She believed that fairies could cure sickness, and her mother was very ill. Each day, her mother feared she would never see her daughter again because she was so close to death and the forest was no place for a little girl. sadly, it was just the mother and daughter in the little cottage." I looked over to see if he was paying attention. He was, and he urged for me to go on. I was trying to stay awake and yawned. Tomorrow would definetly suck.
"So one day, when the little girl went out, her mother died. when the little girl came back, she thought her mother was just sleeping. so, she went out again. It was already night and she had gotten lost and stumbled along a patch of roses. The thorns cut into her and she didn't cry. Instead, she pulled herself up and said, "I will not let my mother die! I will get a fairy to grant her life!" She shouted into the darkness, not realizing a creature, not human o beast was listening."
Louis rested his head on my lap and I froze. I looked down at him and he told me to continue and that he would not fall asleep. I sighed and looked up, the firefly had gone, but came back a few seconds later with many others.
"The creature followed the little girl home and saw that her mother was dead. But knew that the little girl did not know this. It smiled to itself and knew that the girl should not be alone. So, it knocked on the door and took the appearance of a man. But, it could not get rid of its huge wings. They were black in color and very large, so large, that it would not be able to enter the house. When the girl opened the door, she thought he was a monster. But he, taking the appearance of a man, told her that he could grant her mother life. But it would be a life of giving light to those who have none."
I was making the story up as I went so, I knew it sucked. I asked if he wanted me to stop so he could go back to the room, but he said he wanted to know what happened. I looked up and noticed that the fireflies were moving around now. Making patterns in the sky.
"The little girl told the man that she just wanted her mother well and to live a life of happiness. The man smiled, and told the girl to close her eyes. Upon doing so, the man quickly devoured the girl and only her screams and the blood on the walls would be the evidence that what had happened happened. Now, the creature turned into its regular form and went to the woman. He opened his mouth and the blood of the little girl spilled over the woman. But it wasn't her blood, it was her essence. The creature wanted the little girl and to be together forever. when the child's essence was inside of the woman's corpse, she woke up and started to try and breathe. But she couldn't. she started to glow from her belly and soon, from deep inside her, lights starts to explode from her. Thus, the birth of fireflies."
I looked down at Louis, smiling, expecting him to be disgusted, instead, he sat up and started to clap.
"That was awesome! A little too gory for my taste, but really great!" My jaw dropped. No one ever liked my stories. I was best at poetry, and he said he liked my story. I started to wonder if he was insane. But, it was odd, when we were walking back to the room, I could have sworn that I saw something like a wing behind him. Maybe it was just a shadow though, after all, if someone is going to have a wing, shouldn't they have two?
