Oh, God. This is gonna take a long time to do, and as hard as I've been trying to get on the computer to write about these things, I'm dreading so much about writing this much stuff. Well, I think it's best to begin when we woke up on Thursday morning.
I got up pretty early considering I had been up late playing Ragnarok, trying to get in every last second, before I wouldn't see it for a long time, and most of my stuff had been packed, we were just going for things to double check we had everything we needed. I got to go on the computer for a little while longer, and before we knew it, we were off to the airport. My dad was gonna drop us off. See, we had been trying to schedule a date for the doctor so my dad could get some Cortizone shots in his back to help with the pain, and the only day he had had available was Friday, so me, Kelly, and Sophia were shipping out on Thursday night, while my dad would go by himself the next day. We got our luggage settled, then headed for the gates, and said our goodbye-for-nows.
Then it was on the clearings and the gates, as we went through all those stupid security checks, and we finally made it to our door. Aunt Janet and her friends had been waiting for us, so Kelly got acquainted and they giggled over Sophia, so I went to go get a book. I found a novel to read while I was there, since Kelly said I would go insane in Illinois with nothing to do. They don't have cable, barely have this internet connection, and none of these privileges we've got in Vegas. I found a book called A Long Way Down and it's about these four people who meet on the rooftop of a building all four of them were about to jump off of to end their lives, and somehow connect to each other. So far it's a pretty interesting read.
We finally boarded the plane, which was the 2nd time I'd ever been on one, and it was going to be a 3 hour flight. It wasn't too exciting, but I really don't think flying is all that great unless you're the one flying the plane, and maybe even then it's not so great. It was a real wonderful view, and looking down, Vegas looked like one of those maps or towns you can build in a Sim City game. As we got closer to Illinois, there was a nice formation of nothing but clouds, that sort of looked like a village of them. Sophia handled the flight really well for a 3 monther, and the stewardesses loved her. I don't think the passengers enjoyed her as much though.
We got off the plane last, and it had already begun to rain, but not really hard. We met with Aunt Janet, Kelly was going to drive her home, and we picked up our Rent-A-Car, which was a really nice one by the way. We had arrived in Bellville, which is a 30 min. drive from Staunton, our destination, and god was it humid. I prefer Nevada heat over humid heat any day, believe me it sucks big time.
On the drive to Staunton, it was nothing but lots of darkness and fields, a lot of it corn and beans. But I guess from their lack of water, the corn had all gotten up straight and dried up, so the rain was too little, too late. It was so incredibly dark though, no streetlights at all. Another thing is that there is no civilazation close to another one, so walking from place to place would take hours or even days. Not to mention bugs and wild animals are right in your backyard. I love this place, it's a bit nicer than the deserty area, but I definetly would never live here, I'm a City Sissy.
As we arrived in Staunton, I noticed that the population count was 5100. That's like a neighborhood in Vegas. This town is homely, but small. In this place, everyone knows who you are and what you do, and I'm sure that's got good and bad consequences. We dropped off Aunt Janet, and head for Prairietown, where Kelly's parents live.
Like I said about the darkness, it's so thick and eerie. We could never be outside at the same times here as we do in Vegas. Plus, because of the rain, there was tons of fog, so driving down the road, you could only see about 5 ft. in front of the car, definetly Silent Hill material. Kelly was saying she was worried about hitting deer, so that got me even more paranoid.
We turned and entered this littlre area where apparently they lived. Kelly told me this street we turning on was named after Grandpa because he had built this house back in 1970. She pointed to a pond, but it was so dark I couldn't make it out, and we finally saw some light coming from a window. We had arrived at the house.
Grandma came out and greeted us, and we brought everything in from the house. Meghan was inside as well, along with Grandpa. So we chatted, and Grandma had bought Salami, cause we'd had nothing to eat since before the flight, which was like juice, so I scarfed down some food. We relaxed a bit, and set up my parent's and Sophia's room, I was getting the couch.
I didn't really fall asleep, I stayed up channel surfing. There wasn't much on with 5 channels, but somehow I managed. God, there was this infomercial I love, and I wanna buy the product just to see how dumb it is.
They called it the Magic Bullet, and it's some sort of Mini-Blender, where you can take almost anything and have it chopped up or pureed. I would have been impressed and gullible, if not for the fact that the people they were showing it to in the house didn't act so poorly like it was the machine to end all machines. They were like, "Well, I bet it can't chop up onions, those are impossible." "Well, Diane, you CAN!"
Pretty sure I drifted off after that....
