From Father To Son
(I wrote this bit of fan-fiction to my brudda from anudda mudda, Eldako. It supposed go along the lines of the Yamakosei-Norisu War.)

"I've always found that anything worth achieving will always have obstacles in the way. You've got to have that drive and determination to overcome those obstacles on route to whatever it is that you want to accomplish."

The sound of his father's voice echoed in the warrior's mind. No matter how deep in meditation or how much he concentrated, the inner workings of his mind always played his father's voice. The emptiness of his thoughts usually amplified the sound. Sometimes it felt as if his father was speaking from right behind him.

"If you want to accomplish anything in life, you can't just sit back and hope it will happen. You've got to make it happen."

He listened to the masculine voice of his father, whose depth rivaled the Great Sea to the east. It was an unnerving sound that most people would freeze in awe when he spoke. It was also a sound that, for reasons unknown, infuriated the young warrior. Though deep in concentration, he could feel his breathing increase significantly as his temperature rose to match it.

"The three key components for success are psychological preparedness, physical conditioning and mental toughness."

Eldako unsheathed his swords with a master's grace and quickly spun around. The wind brought a rain of hay as his blade cut a clean streak through several practice dummies. Splintered wood brushed off of his clothing and blades as he held his position, slowly calming himself. He could hear his father's deep, bellowing chuckle as he had heard many times before.

"Men are like steel. When they lose their temper, they lose their worth."

With that, he knew that Lord Norisu had won, as he always did. He regained the calm composure he used in meditation and slowly sheathed one of them. His jet black hair swayed gently in the wind as his breathing steadied. No matter how much he prepared for it, the voice of his father always won the war in his mind.

"A lot of people give up just before they're about to make it. You never know when that next obstacle is going to be the last one."

This one was spoken into his ear, causing Eldako to swing his blade around.....only to meet nothing but air. He felt his temper start to rise again, but shook his head at the burning feeling inside. He raised the sword towards the east, looking at a castle that seemed to sit on top of the world.

"You are the last obstacle, father," Eldako spoke into the wind. "I assure you this, I have the drive to defeat you and I will defeat you."

Eldako stroked a familiar jewel that he kept in a carrying sack on his hip. The air around him grew to a festering heat and the remaining targets were immediately incinerated. He sheathed the second katana and began walking towards the castle. Just outside of his training grounds he looked up at the castle and yelled into the wind.

"I will defeat you, Chyaku Norisu!"
