You disappoint me, Hollywood.
Really, you do. there hasn't been a decent horror film out lately. stare
SAW V? I'm bored with it. Gore only freaks you out so many times! rolleyes
The Strangers? I didn't give a s**t about the victims! I wanted more of the killers. I want my $5.50 back. The entire movie I was just: Is it entertaining yet?
Untraceable? Get it through your head; techno fear films won't keep us off the internet. It had a good idea but it was just so.... homo. Points for creative ways to kill people, though.
Quarantine? It was just a remake of [REC]. An exact remake. They used the same set, the same dialogue, the same everything. The only difference is that this isn't in Spanish. Remakes are fine as long as you bring something new to the plate, but it was just completely unoriginal. If you've watched both versions, the unoriginality of Quarantine would hurt your brain. I think the origin of the disease was different, but that's not good enough!
Perhaps Serial Killers and slasher films have gone through they're cycle in film. Maybe we could revive some monster movies or murder mysteries? Or something that ******** with you, like Shrooms. Or something with a really good back story. Maybe some more ghost and haunting flicks? And NOT a remake of an Asian horror film; get your s**t together and make something new, America! I havn't been to the movies since The Secret Life of Bees field trip for my English II class. Which, by the way, was EXTREMELY loyal to the book. Bravo! Hollywood did something right!

I find myself unable to think of any recent american films that have stood out to me...

Most of the good movies I've seen have been foreign. Pan's Labyrinth, Let the Right One In, [REC]...Hell, Ginger Snaps is Canadian and Shrooms was Australian!

I've essentially given up hope on American film makers.

Also: Because of Repo! I now have faith in the film industry.
