Tome of madness
A collection of thoughts of a madman
The Brewery Art Walk
At least once a year I attempt to go to the Art Walk at the Los Angeles Brewery Art Colony. This time I was accompanied by my Surly young life partner and most loved adorer of furry animals across the land Amree. For those of you that do not know, the art walk at the former Pabst Brewery is probably the coolest art walk you could go to. It's pretty much like going to the best modern art museum ever for free, mixed with at least 5 random performances, 20 concerts, and really good outdoor food from the restaurant right in the middle of it all.

I was a bit disappointed with the fact that the Abundant Sugar space was not open this time, but to my understanding most of the people who live there were at Cochella at the time so.... what can you do? After going to a small artist's space who was featuring a collection of colorful and surreal paintings, I went to the Church of art. The space was set up to look like a (you guessed it) a small church. in side a crowed gathered so dense that I could barely see to the stage. The most I could see was a silver haired man playing music accompanied by what sounded like an orchestra of horns, bels and drums, to my left there was a man painting an ever changing image that was currently being recorded. As the rising temperature caused some of the audience to seek cooler air I could see the man behind probably the most complicated contraption for playing music you could possibly imagine. It looked like something Spike Jones would be attached to, yet he played blues and Jazz with it, singing and using his hands and feat to play each instrument with an ease that did not seem humanly possible. With this amazing performance I was a little more than encouraged to go on.

I passed a few other wild places along with a fabrication place that had a newtons cradle made with bowling balls and a slew of other brightly colored objects. There was a gallery where a man made printed clothes and curtains with light and colorful designs. Upstairs had an amazing photography of a dark, circus themed images of women, almost set up like a side show. above them was where I found a clothing line called The Black Hearts Brigade. all really cool rock and roll themed clothes. There was a really creepy exhibit called Lets Play Dead where it seemed dolls and babies were sewn and chopped into these horrid little nightmare inspiring monsters.

As usual there is just too little time in a day to see it all.I may return tomorrow to see what I missed, though if not I highly recommend going. it only comes twice a year and there are few words to describe how awesome it is so, have fun.
