Zucchera's Venting Pages
Go ahead. Read it. I can't summarize it all in a little paragraph.
Prologue
This is the prologue to my story. The story is called Angelsong. If you have a better title I'd love to hear it; I HATE this one.

From the diary of Dr. Nemaral, January 19, 1757.

Long ago, when the world was young, there were beings purer and more powerful than humans there. There were humans, of course, and elves too. But they were the minority. The world was largely populated by these pure beings; the humans called them 'angels', but they were not. They called themselves 'Songs'.

The Songs were beings born of Gaia herself, and had 'control' over most of her surface. There were many types of songs; the main ones followed the elements: Air, Water, Earth, Fire. Some of the smaller populations of Songs included gold, silver [and many other precious metals], and star.

THE AIRSONGS

The Airsongs were lofty and ethereal, fleeting and wispy. They were generally the most beautiful, though this was not always the case. Their beauty was natural, and from themselves, for they were not interested in gold or silver, or enhancing their bodies. They loved the beauty of nature, and made quick friends with the rare Starsongs and Earthsongs. Generally they stayed away from Gold- and Silversongs.

The Airsongs were very generous and rarely kept anything for themselves. They never settled down to live anywhere and were always traveling.

They had peculiar powers, as did all of the Songs. The Airsongs had control over where the winds blew. They could sometimes control the temperature, though that was mostly a Weathersong power. Birds often made closer friends than humans to them, and they could shapeshift into one. Most Airsongs preferred the beauty of the dove.

THE WATERSONGS

The Watersongs were detached and often loners. They'd find a pool or lake and guard it against everyone, for they hardly ever moved. They tended to hoard things, for example gifts in exchange for a blessing on a weary traveler.

Their beauty was less lofty than the Airsongs, though they also did not seek to make themselves attractive. They did not see the point, as they were alone much of the time.

The Watersongs, in their purest blood, often did not wear clothes; it interfered with their swimming. When they did wear something, it was only to meet with other beings. Often their clothes were tight and plain [one solid color], akin to a bathing suit. Their hair was long and dark, and they'd occasionally wear it like a garment with seaweed woven into it.

The Watersongs were the strongest physically, as they were always swimming. They enjoyed learning from nature and its creatures, and hearing songs and news from the winds or waters. Little is known about them, almost all of it is compiled here, for they were reclusive and did not enjoy attention.

The Watersongs had an odd ability to enhance the environment with their voices. The heart of a Watersong is full of music, and they have only to open their mouths for a song to burst forth. Nature responds to this Singing positively, and the leaves seemed a little greener, the grass a little taller in the presence of a Watersong.

THE EARTHSONGS

The Earthsongs were the frailest and least intelligent of the Songs. They were very concerned with how they looked, though they had an odd sense of beauty. Frazzled and wild was beautiful and elegant to most Earthsongs. Many had wings in their purest blood and they enjoyed having bits of silver and gold. They had small attention spans and were distracted very easily. They enjoyed company, living in sorts of 'hives', many houses clustered together in the trees.

They were very in tune with Gaia and cared for her in any way they could. In return, they were blessed with talent in music and learning, and other magics. They would learn quickly, but forget quickly also. They would move very fast without so much as a sound, especially in the forest.

Their personalities could not be generalized; there was no rhyme or reason to them. Each was different and this made them difficult to predict; even the previous information here is a broad summary. There very well could have been deeply intelligent, focused Earthsongs, or naturally strong ones, or greedy ones.

Many Earthsongs became doctors. They were able to use incredible spells that could heal a broken bone in seconds or knit together skin in an instant. If they weren't using magic, they were finding new, more efficient or economical ways to use herbs and medicines.

THE FIRESONGS

The Firesongs were odd, wild things. They were rebellious and eccentric, or on the other hand, sad and withdrawn. They would dress in bright, vibrant colors and ridiculous clothing; ties, belts and bandages, but very little jewelry. Often their hair was frizzy and out of control, and this suited them fine. Often they'd put it up in impossible styles. Many of them wore lots of makeup [goths and punks get this from Firesongs]. They were dark skinned and thought to have come from the desert.

The Firesongs were stubborn and persistent. They'd get anything that needed to be done, done. Though they were not strong of body, they could easily build muscle if they chose to. Because of their ability to do nearly anything they put their mind to, some Firesongs were arrogant, but many of them were kept humble by others [they were very social], sometimes even to the point of low self esteem.

They had the ability to summon fire at will through martial arts, weapons, even just by breathing. This made them nearly the most powerful songs.

THE GOLD AND SILVERSONGS

These two breeds were very similar in their personalities, temperaments, and abilities. They tended to be shallow and mischievous. They loved their namesakes and could often locate a vein of gold or silver quickly and easily. Many made a fortune mining precious metals. They wore excessive jewelry [many made their own]. Men loved them, but Songs and Elves did not.

THE STARSONGS

The five Starsongs were a curious race, and not much is known about them. They had large, feathered wings and much of their bodies were covered in feathers like a bird; they did not, however, have the ability to shapeshift like the Airsongs. In fact, they did not seem to have any powers at all. If they did, they refrained from using them. The Elves often consulted them, but for what is not known. There were never more than five at a time, and it is said they were not born of Gaia, or Emreth as they called her, at all; but that they came from Varlessa, the Elves' celestial goddess, hence their name.

THE ELVES

Elves were not songs at all. Our lore says that Songs come from Emreth, but Elven-lore has another story, at least that is what I have learned from the few people I have met who claim to have spoken with Elves.

They say that the Elves' creation started with the first Elf-queen. She was the only elf, and for that Varlessa wept a single tear. Since the elves believe that Her tears are stars, and the stars are the souls of elves, they believe that this tear was the creation of the first Elf-King, and from the two, the entire elven race.

But perhaps this was simply drunken nonsense...

That's it! FINALLY I FINISHED THE PROLOGUE! Goodbye one-more-thing-to-do! Now I will not post any more! MWAHAHA! No, it's just that, I'm hoping to get it published [a vain hope, I know] and I don't want it on the internet yet. If I decide, once it's done, that I'd die of embarrassment if it was published under my name, maybe I will post it here. Don't hold your breath; it's going to be a while.
