life is wonderful...most of the time
CHAPTER ONE: BROKEN ENGINE.

Nytemane drove through the small town of greystone Arizona. His chevy truck, older than him by a couples of decades, running low on gas. He pulled into the only gas station in the town, and hoped out of his car. He worked on filling his car as he thought about the small town. The town had one gas station, one restaurant, and about five cops that worked at the makeshift library/police station.
The kids in this town were mostly young teens and looking for something to do on a long day in a small town. Almost all of the 100 citizens living in greystone went to the small church at the edge of it. There was the gas station the restaurant the grocery store police station and then there was all the house. Nytemane found this a bit odd, but had lived here all his life he was used to it.
Nyte finished pumping his gas, and went inside to pay for it. Cindy was standing at the counter reading one of her many books. She was dressed in blue jeans and a white shirt tied to show her stomach. She was tan and her brown hair flowed nicely slightly past her shoulders. She looked up at nyte as he walked in her green eyes sparkling she always had a thing for him. He smiled at her and walked up to the counter.
“Hey Cindy what’s up? Things going good around the store? Sorry I ain’t been in in a while, my truck messed up. Spent a while fixing it.” He listened to her laugh as he pulled his wallet out of the back of his jeans. He placed a twenty on the counter walking to the back to get a soda. He could here Cindy talking to him from the counter.
“You’re a very good mechanic Nyte. Not a better one around. Speakin of which, I think my car sounds a bit funny. Nyte picked up a snickers bar walking back to the counter, “You mind chekin it out for me? Ill pay you for your troubles.” Nyte smiled as Cindy rung him up. He loved doing mechanic work for people and the money they gave him was usually enough to help him get by. He nodded taking the change from her and putting it in his pocket.
“ya sure do you want me to come get it or you think you can drive it to my place?” He asked, leaning against the counter and picking up Cindy’s book looking at the cover. He gave a snort as she answered his question.
“sure I can drive it, when do you want me to bring it by?” Nytemane thought a moment. Tonight wouldn’t be good he had that thing.
“um next weekend alright? I am a bit tied up at he moment. And honestly Cindy, I don’t know where you get your books from, but I think most books about werewolves are a joke and they should find a new topic” He realized her was on the verge of rambling and stopped himself looking at a blank Cindy. “Sorry its just that im part native American ,it angers me when people disgrace the wolves this way. They don’t kill people they protect them.” Nytemane sighed. “Sorry he apologized handing the book back to Cindy.
She took it putting it under the counter where he couldn’t see it.
“I’m sorry I didn’t know you felt that way. Ill make sure not to mention them around you again.” she said smiling slightly. “By the way I meant to ask you,” she sat on a crate behind her resting against a box of cigarettes. “Why is your name nytemane anyway? It seems very odd.” Night smiled to himself. He would tell her, but he knew she wouldn’t understand all of it.
“My family had a lot of native American beliefs in it. They regarded the wolf to a very high respect, and thought of them as protectors and friends. When I was born my family had a feeling that I was going to be a wild soul.” he laughed “They were right, I was always out running and getting into any trouble I could. I was always out at night, and I had a bad habit of letting my hair grow out when I was younger. Nyte paused rubbing a hand over his buzcut now. “My mom told me it reminded her of an animals mane. So eventually we changed my name to match who I was. It really didn’t seem that odd to me. I was used to may brothers and sisters having un normal names. Things like nightwalker, fang bearer, gentle wolf.” He stopped remembering his family.
He wasn’t in the moods to think about them at the moment. He realized he was clenching his fist and looking down at the counter, he quickly looked back up at Cindy who seemed very amused. She had her legs crossed she was leaning back and smiling. Nytemane straitened from the counter.
“What?” he asked
“That’s very interesting” She admitted standing up and stretching. Nytemane shrugged feeling the same but not wanting to talk about it.
“so what about you? What’s going down at your place I heard your sister was finally leaving the coop.” Nyte said trying to change the subject hoping to end this soon. It was hot and he had work to do.
“Its been goin good. Daddy’s a bit upset that storm last night messed up our roof. He is trying to fix it. And yah sis is finally leaving with that new husband of hers. Speaking of leaving, I heard there was a loner coming.” She said looking all exited again as if he had just walked through the door again.
“Loner?” Nyte asked referring to the the term they used for newcomers. Most people who came here was either hiding, lost, or had a very very specific reason for coming. He was truly curiose now.
“Yah it’s a girl I heard, apparently she is working on a book or something and needed ideas and a silent place to work. I think this place is more silent then what she’s looking for huh?” She laughed. Nyte nodded.
“yah well Cindy I’d love to stay and chat but I need to go. Got lots of work to do.” He waved at her as he walked from the store. He saw her pick up that book again , and sighed shaking his head as he jumped into his truck. He started the truck and pulled out of the gas station heading to his house. He lived literally in the few Acers of wood that Greystone had. He liked it there, and enjoyed roaming the woods at night. He thought about what Cindy had said, as he passed a red light. No cars were coming or looked like they had been there at all, so he didn’t care to much.
He hoped this person was normal and was really here for what she said she was. He couldn’t risk his secret being told. To ANYONE. If this girl put him in danger of that he didn’t know what he would do. He had absolutely nowhere to go. Nyte slowed down his truck noticing a car broken down on the side of the road. He immediately thought of that girl. Not just because he didn’t recognize the car, but because there was a young woman standing looking very very mad at the moment.
She slammed her fist down on the car making a very loud cracking noise. Her face went white and she cradles her hand to her chest cursing loudly.
