The cool sea breeze blew past M.
It had a salty tang, and carried the distant sound of crashing waves. This breeze was like a taste of the sea, a breath of pure life. It swirled about, rustling leaves and caressing her high cheeks and tugging at her bound golden hair before dancing off to wherever breezes go.
It certainly didn't want to stay here, she mused. The jungle was hot and close, green trunks crowded so close together that there was barely room to walk between them. Thick plant growth cluttered the ground, tiny mobile green vines and leafy plants tumbling over rocks, clinging to trees, and generally making nuisances of themselves as they clung to her bare feet in passing. The slowly moving plants made it difficult walking, and she contemplated what would happen if she stopped moving entirely for too long?
M was tempted to stop and rest, even if only to see how far the little tendrils and vines would climb. What they would do. She was also hot, tired, and sweaty. Her flowing red dress was damp to the touch where it ran along her skin, and the graceful folds which typically pleasantly molded to her form now seemed to trap pockets of the intense heat. It would have been nice to pause, to lean up against one of the trees and hope for another touch from that fresh sea breeze. But she had places to be, and only a guess how far those places were.
The breeze didn't seem to be cooperating either. After it's one coy appearance, the humid air fell still, like a pond smoothing over after a ripple. It felt like a pond too, there was so much moisture in the air she nearly felt underwater. Maybe, if she got up out of this jungle, it would be cooler there. Or at least, less stifling.
She straightened, shaking off the little vines which had crept up around her ankles and adjusting her favorite bracelet. A simple band, with a rose who's petals looked like they had each been dipped in blood. It matched her long silken dress, and lent a healthy blush to her pale skin. As her fingers brushed the flower, she heard a surprised squeak.
With a flitter of scarlet wings, and an indignant squeak Aniola perched on her shoulder. M couldn't help but laugh at the tiny creature as it smoothed over it's luxuriant little mane of hair. Aniola was her companion, a hyperactive, mildly intelligent, and vastly amusing little Fae. She looked something like a human, but her entire tiny body was a shade of cherry blossom pink, and her features were different, smoother and less pronounced than a humans. She was adorable with her little scarlet wings and a dress crafted of what looked like rose petals. Aniola had always been linked to M's bracelet, she seemed to treat it like her best friend, home, and a sacred holy object. And right now, she was preening on M's shoulder, having rushed to get here after feeling the bracelet touched.
M laughed again, thankful for her colorful companion. Aniola was an excellent distraction, and M stretched, and continued on her way. Slipping barefoot over rocks, easing between trees, all the while working towards the obsidian mountains towering beyond.
