Sad, Indifferent
      084. Sad

Enzo was never much of a writer, and looking at his work, one got the impression he was not meant to be one, either. Despite Satu's raving reviews and the (tentative) smiles his family gave him upon glancing over his pride and joy, he fell into insecurity.

It seemed that the magic art was just lost to him; clever transitions, plot structure, character development, metaphor, advanced vocabulary that allowed one to write morose, melancholy, down... all were lost to him. He almost cried about it, too, one day, and he looked the part. At the kitchen table he sat motionless, head buried in his crossed arms.

"Ne, fratello?" Nico was smarter, better at reading people, than he appeared. In one arm he held a surfboard, one of their older ones; Enzo glanced up from his arms and saw that it was one of the first he'd ever used.

      "Teach me to surf?"

So he wouldn't have a book in the library, wouldn't be written down in textbooks. He could surf, felt the sand in between his toes and his stomach drop as he rode that wave; if he could pass that feeling on to someone else, then he too, could be worth something.

Satu leaned back, eyes still glued fixedly on the scene before her. The studio's chair was uncomfortable, but she'd sat in worse, and in any case the pair she saw dancing before her were too transfixing for her to mind at all.

Her best friend (sister?) and her own boyfriend, stepping carefully through a simple Paso Doble, laughing at their clumsy mistakes, but even then they just lit up more. Satu's grin was huge, stars in her eyes shining like those in the sky. She was never much of a technical dancer, anyway. Shaking her hips, feeling the music, digging down into the soul of the rhythm was never a problem for her, but stuck in a class she went wild.

They were so pretty, Yasu and Enzo, though they lacked the chemistry that made the dance what it is; they bothered to make sure hands were where they should be in proper context, didn't draw as close as they should. Still, their raw ability put together was quite a spectacle. Satu's heart swelled with pride. She turned to Nico, sitting next to her, wondering how captivated he was with their simple display.

He wasn't, at least in the way she expected. In fact, he'd sunk quite low in his chair, a blue funk about him the likes of which Satu had never seen before. Especially, in fact, when Yasu was anywhere in close proximity, he always had a sort of grin on his face. Now, he was frowning. His lips were turned down.

"Dude." Satu's eyebrows raised, poking her friend's arm. He didn't appear to notice it, so she politely socked him. That seemed to catch his attention; rubbing the spot on his arm, he half-glared at her for a moment before sullenly returning to his business of sulking and watching his brother dance with his girlfriend.

Satu tipped her head, completely full of curiosity. "What's wrong with you? They're so extremely great, it's like. How can you even be frowning?" He muttered something in response, confusing her further.

      "Va?"

His response sounded dangerously close to something she didn't understand. Those silly Spaniards, speaking their language. He sounded awfully jealous, though, which was pretty universal.

"Just because he's dancing with her, doesn't, like. Mean he's gonna make a move, or anything." Satu rolled her eyes.
Yeah, her hot daughter was just that (hot), but Enzo wouldn't dare make a move on her. Not even he was dense enough to do something like that. Yasu'd punch him out anyway, Satu thought with pride. My little girl!

More Spanish, a sort of nasty look. Wow. Was he on his man period, or something? Was that why he was being such a jerk? Or... Maybe when people had something so precious to them, they got mad when it was taken away? Like a toy on the playground? Hmmm. Maybe she'd help get her back, then.

Satu smiled to herself, stood, grabbed Nico's hand. Before he could protest, even ask what she was doing, Satu was shouting (which, for the record, sounded pretty killer in the studio).

"Yaaaaaasu ~ man-meat over here is totally stewing." She pointed to the pinking Spaniard, who was attempting to protest-- he said something in Spanish that apparently Yasu understood. Satu resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Those silly, silly people!

Sailing towards Enzo, who grabbed her hands and pulled her into a salsa embrace, she wondered what he'd been holding back with his new partner (and figured the other two were too distracted to notice if he would be so kind as to show her).
