I often forget to check on how my "all" playlist looks when sorted by play count. I thought I'd share with you the 20 songs that are apparently my absolute favorites out of everything! Granted....it's not quite fair because I have some songs that I love just as much as these, but they just haven't racked up enough play counts because I haven't had them long enough. WHATEVER THOUGH. This shall be fun!
#20: Umi No Mieru Machi (music box version) Also known as "A Town Where You Can See the Ocean", this is the main theme from Kiki's Delivery service and this version is from an album I found on iTunes of Miyazaki songs remixed to sound like a music box is playing them. Not much to say besides that I love this movie, I love this song, and this version is beautiful and relaxing. It's very simple and clean! Side note: Never watch the dubbed version of Kiki's Delivery Service. Ever.
#19: Wake Me Up When September Ends Ahhhhh, Greenday. Greenday, Greenday, Greenday. Really I don't have much of an opinion about this band besides the fact that I found out about them way too late and they were already not cool anymore. Which is sad because they're pretty great. It's hard these days to find guy bands with good lyrics, good music, and a singer who can actually sing. I love this song, again, because it's simple and perfect. Simplicity is probably going to be a recurring theme in this list. & & I totally remember before I bought this song, I would listen to it on YouTube and it was attached to a really bad InuYasha amv. Hehehehe.
#18: Miss Murder Eh, not too too much to say about this one. I first heard it on Guitar Hero and fell in love with it. One thing I hate about AFI though is how hard the lyrics are to understand. Davey Havoc or whatever sings like his mouth has been numbed or something. Before I looked up the lyrics on this one, I was singing along with it the words, "Hey, it's my luck and I, hey, it's my luck and I" instead of "Hey, Miss Murder, can I" and also "Winter's a luck, they suck" instead of whatever the hell that line is actually saying, I forget.
#17: Breakaway I really don't like Kelly Clarkson much, but this song is hot. I just have to remind myself not to associate it with that horrendous Princess Diaries sequel that it was promoting when it came out. Had a weird music video, didn't it? It had a whole verse being lip-synced by a freaky little girl on a roof for some reason.
#16: My Eyes This is the only Dr. Horrible song I own, because it's my favorite by far. If I want to hear any of the other songs, I just pull them up in the actual video and watch them real quick, but I love listening to this one all the time on the bus and such. Neil Patrick Harris is amazing. Amaaaazing. Like he's up there in the best people ever. But I'm probably just saying that because I'm a sucker for a good tenor. Did you see him at the Oscars!? *swoons for gay man*
#15: Everywhere I don't know when I first heard this song, years ago I guess. But when I randomly remembered it while surfing iTunes and bought it, it was like reuniting with an old buddy. This song is really great. I really love to sing along with it. 'Cuz you're eeeeverywheeeere to meee!! And when I close my eyes it's youuuu I seeee. The chorus has a wonderful scale thing and it's all-around fun. Also this one time I saw an awesome Little Mermaid music video set to it, and now the song always makes me think of that. And who doesn't love Little Mermaid?
#14: When You Were Young This is one of my favorite Guitar Hero songs of all time. Singing it makes me feel cool. Playing it on my plastic guitar while I sing it makes me feel even cooler. Great bridge. I wish I knew what the heck this song was talking about though lol. Who doesn't look a thing like Jesus but talks like a gentleman, like I remember when I was young? O_o;
#13: Dream On Dream on! Dream on! Dream on! Dream on! DREAM ON! DREAM ON! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I bought Guitar Hero Aerosmith solely for this song. And I think that's about all that needs be said. Sadly it's one of the crappier songs in the game. I have the sweet-a** live version though! Of the...song. Not the game...err...yeah.
#12: Let It Be Honestly, I love this song, but I don't know why it's above Hey Jude, which is my favorite Beatles song. I guess my playlist just shuffles to it more often. I love that this song has a relatively simple melody and relatively few words, but manages to say a lot. The Beatles are pretty amazing like that. This is one of the songs that's on the Beatles 1 album that I've had since I was a wee Okore in middle school. It's pure loveliness and I've never stopped adoring it. Also that scene with it in the Across the Universe movie is such a tearjerker! Gah! I hate that movie.
#11: Hero Zomg. Probably the main reason why I've watched Spider-Man as many freaking times as I have. I hate Nickelback but this song is LOVE. It's just so gorgeous, straight from beginning to end. It's one of those songs where moving back into the chorus after the bridge is like an orgasm, and I love the start of the bridge, too. When the singer suddenly gets quiet over the line, "Now that the world isn't ending, it's love that I'm sending to you," I like almost cry every time. From how freaking perfect it is. I was actually angry at iTunes for a really long time because I thought they didn't have this song, but they did. It was just listed under the lead singer guy's name, because I guess it isn't an official Nickelback song. Whatever. Sounds the exact same as one. ONLY IT'S NOT ALL GENERIC AND LAME. Yes, I abuse capslock for how much I hate most Nickelback songs.
#10: Sweet Child o' Mine Hehe, I wrote a creative essay about this song once. This song is very catchy and classic, fun to play in Guitar Hero, and I love that its lyrics are creative without being weird. Not much else to say, except why the hell is the title "Sweet Child o' Mine" when the word "of" is always pronounced fully in the actual song? Whyyyyyyyyyy
#9: Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) <insert copy-pasted mini rant about Greenday here> This song I actually heard way before I knew who Greenday was. Because I'm that lame. But I loves it muchly. It feels incredibly heartfelt, which I think is what a lot of love songs are missing. It's funny that it achieves that without actually being all lovey-gooey. Also I just love the little "fuh" at the beginning you hear if you listen closely. ^-^
#8: Penny & Me I've never been the biggest fan of Hanson, I admit. Sure, I liked Mmmbop back when it was popular, but that's really the only song of theirs I was ever familiar with. And then came THIS SONG. Oh my freaking god this song is a god among songs. I don't even know why it's so perfect. Is it the slurred together verses? Is it the imperfect scratchy quality of the guy's voice that screams "I have gotten older and more manly"? I think it's probably both, plus the amazing beautiful tune it has, and the sweet, sweet lyrics. Really, same thing applies to this one as Sweet Child o' Mine's sweet lyrics. "Penny likes to get away, and drown her pain in lemonade." : )
#7: DotA I likes me some techno, even though I'm actually pretty picky about it. A lot of techno songs are easy to tune out, but not anything by Basshunter. I don't even know what the hell nationality this guy is, but he's wicked awesome. I love how bouncy and high-energy his stuff is. This song is fun to jump around violently to. He has a really cool remix of the leekspin song, too.
#6: Iris I've been obsessed with this emo-a** song ever since I was a kid and would hear my brother playing it in his room. Talk about fun to sing along with. Sometimes you just need to scream, and what better way to do it than in song? Not to mention this song is just generic enough that I bet anyone can admit to feeling the way it describes sometimes. I think it has one of the most effective uses of a really loud chorus and softer verses. I also love how it sounds like it starts in the middle of an explanation of something...the first line is, "And I'd give up forever to touch you..." Normally I would think that was weird and nonsensical, but it works here. Good job, Goo-Goo Dolls. Now get a better band name, seriously.
#5: Real Gone Cars may not be the best of the Pixar movies, but it definitely has the best opening sequence. This song is killer! And it's crazy that I like it so much since it's pretty much a country song. It's got a really great head-bobbable beat to it. I have one beef with it though: when I first heard it, I heard the chorus as saying, "Got my pedal to the medal, got my hand in the air," and I like that a lot better than the actual lyric which says, "Got my hands in the air," so that's the way I always sing it. Because driving with no hands sounds stupid, but driving with one hand in the air sounds like bull-riding and that's cool.
#4: Generation Rock Gen-err-a-SHON rock! This is another song I fell in love with when I first played it on Guitar Hero. Usually the German language makes me laugh too hard for me to take it seriously (and I don't know why), but I like it here. It's gritty and straight-forward. It's in your face, yo! Even though I hate not being able to sing along with it really. Wanna know something funny though? If you listen to this song, pay attention during the bridge, there's a line that's totally in German but it sounds like "Doing favors to your husband." Hehe so loveable.
#3: Somebody Told Me Oh, this song. I first heard it when it was being played a lot on the radio, and I just love its wacky lyrics, and how the first chorus just bleeds right into the second verse. That's songwriting genius right there! Not much else to say (I know, I've said that like 3 times now), this song is cool as hell.
#2: Pretty Girl (The Way) I first heard this song in an amv for some random anime, I didn't recognize it then and I don't remember it now. But I do remember that the song really stuck with me, especially because in the video the person synced up every "way!" with someone's mouth opening up wide. XD And it was like meant to be taken seriously so it was all awkward. This is another song where I really love how the final chorus bursts out of the bridge. It also has a very nice catchy see-saw kind of melody that's fun to sing and very easy to pluck out on piano. Yay!
And finally.....
#1: He Mele No Lilo Yep. I actually don't own Lilo and Stitch in any format, but this song is the best thing about that whole movie. (Granted, the whole movie is really great and I really should buy it, but the opening with this sucker is the best part of it.) This song gives me chills. It's the most beautiful children's choir I've ever heard personally, and it's the perfect song for kid voices. Unlike Generation Rock, I actually can pretty much sing along with this one, which is pretty impressive since I know more German than I do Hawaiian. The words are just really organic and great-sounding. It's all-around beautiful and that is why it's the only song in my entire music library with a play count of over 100.
I hope you enjoyed my list, imaginary readers! It was fun to write, I feel a widdle bit like the Nostalgia Critic. I want to marry that guy, he's like solely responsible for getting me through this depressing semester alive.
