I was lucky enough to get an all expense paid vacation to Iraq for one year. Free meals, free gym, free theatre, free X box and Playstation games, and they even had a Pizza Hut. All I had to do was sweat my a$$ off and work all but one day a week. In the beginning we were working the whole week through but once we got settled we had a nice little routine going. I happen to be a construction equipment mechanic who worked at camp Anaconda. It wasn't the greatest place in the world...but it could have been worse. I was one of those Fobbits which means I never got to leave the base. Most of the mechanics didn't except those who were on contact trucks which were few. The rest of us were busy keeping machinery in line and that was about 200 some pieces of equipment. We did get a lot of mortars and a couple missles and even saw some IED's from the towers not to mention some idiots in a plane who dropped flares on the base and started a fire, but there wasn't much else except farm land and a few natives. If you want to see some pictures of the trip http://bwa.snowshoedesign.com/gallery/IvyMinx/IraqAlbum/ There you go.
