Double Standards.
It's something most of us don't want to believe exists here in America.. But unfortunately, it does. We're not safe from it, though we may like to think we are. Of course, it probably won't affect most of us fine citizens, so we don't really notice it unless we dare to think/step outside the box..
Sexuality.
It's okay for a woman to be bisexual, even encouraged. But what about pansexuality? The rarer form.. Or asexuality? What if a guy is bisexual? Those examples are often met with either headshakes or fingerwags, or if you're lucky they're just met with a questioning glance.. As though their very nature is unthinkable. Nowadays, I've even ran into people who think badly of those of us whom are straight.. Isn't that a double standard? Hypocrisy? You can't say anything about those whom are gay, but if they're straight they're met with scoffs from some people. Don't get me wrong.. I support equality in all sexualities, but that's just it, all sexualities. I don't exclude any when I think of equality, and I discriminate against no one. Why do some people feel it's okay to exclude some people from harassment, but not others?
More on the topic of sexuality..
BDSM, and all forms of it, are generally frowned upon in today's society. Society feels like someones place either as a submissive, dominant or other are choices.. They're not. Believe it or not, just as someones sexual orientation isn't a choice, neither is someones role. Many of us may not want to admit to or identify with that part of ourselves, our minds reject it, but we all have it in us.. The BDSM community is just the portion of us whom are open about it. That said, the BDSM community themselves are also sometimes closeminded. Accepting of only the lighter to moderate aspects of the lifestyle, but not of the more extreme/heavy forms. Such as what? You may ask. Blood play, murder roleplay, D/LG (or M/LB), AB, other forms of ageplay, objectification, dollification, necrophilia roleplay, pet play, animal roleplay, etc. Why this double standard? Are some things just too disturbing for the average human psyche to even attempt to understand? And if they can't understand it.. Why not just learn to live with the fact that these things do sometimes happen, between consenting adults?
I leave you with these questions to ponder over.
