On May 1st it was popular for ladies to rush out and wash their faces in the morning dew. It was though that this dew was magical and would create a beautiful complexion for the whole year. It was also thought to be able to remove spots, pimples, and freckles. May is suppose to be an unlucky month it be married in. Children born in May are said to be sickly. New brooms are not to be bought during the month. Washing blankets during May is also said to bring bad luck. Cats born during may will be bad at catching mice and will bring in snakes to a house.
